Also looks like the top of the range is going to share the same 132TSI engine as the new Tiguan. It will be interesting to see whether they put in the DQ500 DSG too.
I still can't get a handle on how big this thing will be. Will it be a direct competitor for the Tiguan and the Yeti, or is it aimed somewhere between the Touraeg and the Tiguan, which given the price disparity between the two, is probably well placed. Not sure if the 132TSI is the best engine for it on that basis, but I don't have any idea what would be appropriate instead.

It's intended to compete in the large SUV category (Kluger, CX9, Sante Fe etc) and still boast class leading capacity so safe to say it's a size up from the Tiguan line.

The new Kodiaq is 4.70m long and has a luggage capacity of up to 2,065 litres.
Compare this to the current Yeti which is 4.22m and has storage of 1,760 litres.
Or the New Tiguan which is 4.48m long and luggage capacity of 1,655 litres.
Or the generation 1 Tiguan which 4.43m and 1,510 litres.
So yes the Kodiaq is definitely a bigger vehicle and will be competing against the other larger SUVs as Dutch mentioned. Plus it can also be optioned up with a 3rd row seating to make a 7 seater which all of the small/medium SUVs can't.
Good overview from the launch here: https://youtu.be/Ks6QdkSqIEc
I don't know if anyone else follows this YouTube channel (really detailed reviews). I love it, Thomas is sooooo German.
Can't believe they're not offering it with the 206kW TSI as in the Superb... 140kW strikes me as underpowered.. Particularly if they want it to go up against the Kluger..
Yeah I thought the 162 engine used in the RS and Superb would be an obvious choice so was surprised they put the smaller one in. Although there has been rumours there might be an RS version so the more potent petrol again might make an appearance yet.

This might be for the rumoured RS version that might be still to come.
Have a look at the comprehensive video that was posted and towards the end they actually interview the Skoda head engine guy. He didn't give anything away regarding the bi-turbo diesel (not that we will get it here anyway) but said that the petrol/electric hybrid is not in the plans for the Kodiaq.
Whether there are plans to put any higher power petrol engines in he didn't say.
Though the 140kW diesel has decent torque and should pull along nicely, but I really suspect the engine choices are based on their largest market which is Europe. Having said that they also mentioned that Skoda may be about to launch in the US which may increase the engine options/offerings.
