Hoontime's my first car, advice please. a road to paradise
Just a thought, if it breaks down in Newcastle with a helpful VWW member in it.... what's going to happen? From my experience...and I mean my actual experience of flying down to drive an old car North... that wasn't 100% as per description and blew a*** half way, tow it! I have the patience of a saint and it was my own car and decision, not sure how a third party is going to feel in someone elses clapped out car. Get an independent to inspect it... yes yes I trust Golf Loon like anyone else on this forum does but if the car isn't what you expect then it's going to be your problem not his. If you think all this is cheap enough to be worth the risk go nuts, but remember that old cars (I'm guessing it's not far off your age) do break down on big drives. Again this is just my experience, but if I had my time again, I'd CALL door 2 door and quote them up if you're serious about getting this car to Bris.
Why don't you take the initiative and call them yourself? You are the one wanting their business, so you need to do the legwork (or finger work in this case) to get the quote.
I know you are only a young bloke, but you are going to need to learn to seek out what you need. I think you are relying on the forum to do the work for you, when you need to make the phone calls or drop in and visit places.
I don't mean to sound harsh, but there is only so much we can recommend.

You could start a thread in the Genral Section called "My first car, advice please" and put all of the stuff in all of the threads you've made into it, it might help people give you advice in one place, and will help you review it. You don't need a new thread for every question you have.
They're part of AAIME, but if you go third party, and have an at fault accident, then will sting you on the excess. Around $1300 for a driver under 24.

I reckon this is the one that Matt lent to me last year, it does run well. Just put some money aside for unexpected repairs. Nothing worse than having a car sat there because of something pathetic you don't have the cash to fix. This applies to any car, not just the Ibiza.
