Haven't bought a new car in awhile and I'm not too sure what the "usual procedure" in negotiating is like. You reckon asking for $40k drive away is pushing it?

No harm in trying. Do not feel shy to ask for more discount.

I went to another dealer yesterday to compare the price I got and they would not offer any discount as the car is new to the market, they told me to come back in 1-2 months to try make a deal..

Saw an ad for the Jetta last night starting at $29,990 (NSW).

          What happened to $26,490?

Makes sense, still cheap at under $30,000.

Makes sense for them to not offer too much discount on a new car.

Will see if I can get it down to $40k this weekend. Wish me luck!

just out of curiosity do you guys think the resale value of the older Jettas will be affected due to the significant price drops in the newer models?.

I currently own a 118TSI 2009 model and have been contemplating on upgrading...
                  Thanks

The new Jetta has been repositioned in the market place,as it now has a cheap entry level model.

However, the previous Jetta range seemed to be a bit more up market,so should not really affect the resale value of your car much.

Doubt it as only the entry level Jetta is cheaper pricing, the rest is about on par with the Mk5.

Im thinking of buying a 118TSI Comfortline for my wife. Only option is Metallic paint. What do you guys think I can get it for? Drive away price is $36,414 + 500 paint. Im thinking $34,000 to $34,500.....possible?

I also want to add the RNS510 nav. Anyone have a link for the best place to discuss? I want to know the best place to buy in Sydney and whether it will be fully integrated - mainly with the optical parking on the screen.

                          ^^^^

For what it's worth, my folks bought the 118TSI Comfortline with Metallic paint, Media-in cables, Floor Mats and Luggage compartment liner for $35,100 drive away.
