  • Thank you Aaron for approving my registration.

I'm a proud owner of a 93 Vento GL, auto with digified 2E since last Nov. Got the car with faded paint work, sagging headliner and the 2E requires top overhaul according to previous owner, other than that the car was straight and the only minor rust was passenger side step at the weather strip joint.

        G'day,

We don't have a VW yet but are looking to buy a Tiguan 147 with a few options, if we decide today July is the delivery date but from what I've read on this forum it will be well worth the wait.

        • HI, I just moved to Canberra and ordered my first VW last week:
White 3door Gti with DSG, Jacky trim, Dyn Audio premium sound, ACC, tint and detroits of course!
I took one for a drive and was convinced. My other options were the XR5 and Megane 225 but didn't bother after driving the MK6 Gti! The only problem now is the loong wait.
          On order : MKVI Gti - White - DSG - 3dr - ACC - Dynaudio - Detroit 18s - Tint.

                  Hi guys.
I just ordered a Manual Golf 103 TDI, and I got quite a lot of useful info out of this forum when I was narrowing my choices from Mazda and VW. So now I have joined, and hope to have the car in about 2 to 3 weeks, and look forward to contributing.

                      • My name is Tom Caldwell, I am a retired Chartered Accountant.

My first VW was a 1956 small window - immaculate body and stuffed engine (not know when I purchased it). I bought it and drove it to Victoria and back on the way back it was backfiring every time I slowed to approach a town. Stopped at Albury and the duty mechanic at a service station pronounced almost no compression in two cylinders on one side. Determined to take it back to Kempsey to have the dealer who sold me it make repairs I staggered home - eventually on the Port Macquarie bridge it blew the muffler clean off. Such stuff becomes a legend.

I later had a 1958 beetle which cost $160 complete with a broken crankshaft web. Luckily my mate was a VW mechanic and I scrounged parts from wreckers. Was a little gem and ran reliably for 5 years only to be sold after our first child was born. On our honeymoon it made the reverse trip up to the NSW north coast and back to the western district of Victoria with nary a problem whilst carrying my new wife's entire belongings in the process. Only breaking a speedo cable in sight of our destination - a very easily forgiven fault.

Later I had a watercooled Carvelle brand new which was a great drive - much nicer than the then very popular Tarago. Problem was it kept losing compression in one cylinder (am I cursed?)

Next VW was a VR6 - shower of the proverbial in a straight line but needed very strong wrists to get it round corners - even with power steering. A great car until the warranty ran out and then nothing but expensive trouble. As an uncaring parent I gave it to one of my sons who loved it but spent a small fortune keeping it on the road.

Now I and my wife have two identical VW Golf 6-speed diesels. Whilst not as reliable as our previous Hondas they are nice to drive. I like them despite Teutonic engineering excellence and VW spare parts prices.

Came to this forum because I fitted led tail-lights to my trailer and have had some trouble - see earlier posts (I didn't understand the protocol). VW service said flatly 'they will not work'. But I had already managed to get them to work but now know I need a dummy load device to make them work 'properly'. Working on the case at the moment.

BTW I live at Coffs Harbour and I do have a 20 year old Honda CRX I cannot bear to part with - less bothersome over this period of time than any Volkswagen in 3/4 years - but as I say - I like the way the VW Golf drives and with a six speed diesel and nice gearchange to play with it is the ultimate drivers car.

My adventure with the dsg box when trying out a GTR was:
"change down when I say so"
                        - "no I won't I think the ground speed is too high"
                        "no it isn't"
                        - "well I am only going to change down when I am ready".

I swear that this conversation with the dsg transmission actually happened - in any case when I wish to change gear in a manual I don't get any lip from the transmission. In 47 years of driving I have neither broken a car, nor a gearbox nor killed a passenger with fright. So I prefer manual of course in the full knowledge that I am smarter than the chip that runs a dsg box. No point in having a manual over-ride if it cannot be ridden. (smile)

My car ownership is varied - we currently have 5 minis, 3 mokes, a Suzuki Swift Gti, a Goggomobil coupe race car, a Commodore work car and a Mk V Golf 1.9 Tdi.

Just doing a bit of research on some future upgrades...

                              • G'Day from a newbie soon to be GTI owner!

                                G'day all,

I placed my order today for a new MkVI GTI, with DSG, RVC and Sat Nav. I've included the 18" detroit alloys on the order as well. Oh and it's red of course.

I say that because my current Mini Cooper S is red and Honda CBR954 fireblade bike are both red. If it's meant to go fast it's meant to be red. My next Ferrari will be red also!

I had a bit to do with Lima who is on these forums when we lived down in Goulburn. He and his lovely partner were a great help to my wife and I when we were waiting five months for our Mini to arrive. Well now we're in for another four to six month wait for the GTI. It doesn't worry us as we really still love our Mini and we will 'wean' ourselves off it over the next few months.

I was going to to buy a 118TSi but, well, I drove the GTI didn't I?

Anyhow, I'll look forward to lots of reading while the wait goes on...

                                regards

                                Mick
