Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Vw tsi 2009- engine gone :( :(

    Hi guys,

I signed up on here for some advice. After having a long cry and argument with my boyfriend who warned me not go get a VW I have had some bad news.

Today I found out that my engine will need replacing. I got a quote of about 7k. $5300 for the motor and $2000 for labour. Now this isn't even a reconditioned motor and is second hand.

Really not sure what to do. I love this car have looked after it and got it serviced and to be told that the timing came off the teeth and caused the timing/engine to be ruined the only way is for a replacement.

Now do I cut my losses and try and sell it or fix it and sell it down the track?? Either way I am loosing about 8k. I bought for 12k two years ago. Very upsetting as you can imagine its not even that old and isn't under warranty nor would my insure cover any cost.
