Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Just looking?

Currently shopping around for a possible new family car purchase in the next 6 months. Despite growing up in the UK in the 70s and 80s a Skoda Octavia is on my shortlist

Previous cars have included a Triumph Spitfire and a Lotus Elise.... current criteria are quite different! Lots of boot space for camping and ideally adaptive cruise, emergency brake etc. I'm not keen on the new Tiguan pricing (particularly as you can't get the Driver assist package option on the base model), so an Octivia wagon is my current favourite.

Welcome to the forum and commiserations on owning a Spitfire. At least the Elise was a step in the right direction.

A 1 year old Passat not on your wish list?

    Cheers

Haha, yes the Spitfire wasn't great, but it was a convertible sportscar and that's all that mattered when I was 20!

I haven't really looked at the Passat yet. I'm trying to limit my list otherwise I'll spend forever researching it all.

Yay, picked up my first VW/Audi/Skoda on Friday. I got an Octavia RS Wagon on the current 1.8% finance deal, which includes a 5yr factory warranty. Loving it so far!

            Love of speed?

C'mon, the guy had a Triumph Spitfire.

Good choice with the RS though.

Top down feels faster, that's what I'm going with.

Yeah, yeah as I said, I was 20, and I think I wanted a Triumph because my dad owned a TR2 with a TR3 engine (or was it a TR3 with a TR4 engine..?) in the 60s, used to race his mates from London down to the South Coast. I think the Elise more than made up for it!

It would have been a TR3 with a TR4 engine.

Yes, ok, I'll admit to having owned an old Triumph or 2.
