Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    hey guys,

My names Luke i'm 25 and i'm from Ringwood, Victoria...since i was 16 i had an obsession with E series fords for fairmonts, i have owned 2 fairmonts, one EF fairmont 4 litre 6 which was later swapped with a charged 5.0l v8 and another stock EL fairmont v8 and a 97 NFII fairlane v8, ive always liked the old golfs but found they were hard to come by, so one day i get a phone call from a guy i work with saying his old man wants to get rid of his south africa imported 82" MK1 golf $200 or its going to scrap...how could i say NO!??

        Old Golf's rule!

The Fairmonts might be nice and comfortable but there's more smile per mile with a MK1. When we had the EB V8 my wife would leave me for dust through the corners in the Golf and I'd catch up on the straights. Now I know how to make the MK1 quick in a straight line there's no keeping up with it. 150 hp in a 800kg car is fun.

If you're doing a budget build find a cheap 2 litre manual MK3 and swap all the mechanicals into the MK1. That will be enough to easily keep up with the 6 cylinder Fords and scare a few V8's. If you want to spend a bit of money then the sky is the limit. There's a 1150 hp MK1 in Germany that does 8's, still using a 2 litre VW motor.

Cheers and welcome to the forum.

        Paul

            Thanks

i still have my fairlane as the daily whilst i tinker with the golf, i already have so much love for the golf even tho i've only driven it twice.
fairlane still makes a good noise from the cammed v8 but i love the golf ALOT more!!! would rather sell the fairlane and drive the golf

Waterboy! nice and close huh? one post code away haha...i do like the older e series...would have liked an xr8

Welcome, I'm also round the corner

My only brush with a V8 was the 253 HZ Ute I had for a while... not a bad sound but it wasn't exactly known for it's speed. I've always been tempted by a modern V8 after being friends Commodores. 6L V8... goes alright

$200 sounds like a bargain, would love to see some pictures of the work in progress

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
