Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Ahoy there,

This is my first post and first golf (volkswagen as well actually) so this is new territory for me. I picked it up just the other day for what I thought was a good deal from a desperate seller - $1800 with fresh rego, 150xxx km's and reverse gear! It has a very minor clicking but there's no grinding or popping out of gear which I read was a majorly common fault with these but we'll see how it goes I guess. I have a few ideas in the pipelines, will be ordering some cheap UK coil overs soon but nothing too major I don't think. Will be a cheap project and daily driver.

It had been sitting for a few months from the previous owner so I gave it a good scrub today and it came up alright.

    Cheers,
    Beau

She looks really good but beware the cheap coilover. I had Hottunings on my MK2 (uses the suspension as the MK3) and after a year putting up with them I had to take them out - way too stiff. Handling wise they were fantastic when fitted with 15's and 50 profile tyres but the constant banging over every bump got to be really annoying.

I've now got Spax gas shocks and springs and they are way better.

Cheers and welcome to the forum.
