Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • First VW, first forum post

    Hi All,

time to introduce myself - I have been reading many a forum thread here since getting my VW 2 months ago, but just joined up last night.

I am now the proud owner of a MY10.5 R36 wagon in black. Purchased it to replace the wife's old A4 quattro wagon but after acquainting myself with the thing for the last 2 months, she has now been relegated to my 3.0R B-spec liberty and I am keeping the R36 for myself.

Just been doing some research as the 90k service is due soon, apologies in advance if I start posting questions that have been answered many times before.

the first thing that is confusing me is the timing belt/chain situation. the service book definitely says "toothed belt for camshaft drive renewed V6 Passat" under the scope of service section of the service schedule, however i was under the impression it had a timing chain? is this a different belt to the normal timing belt, or does this instruction in the service book apply to a different engine (V6 diesel perhaps)?

I have other service questions but I should probably post them in the correct section of the forum.......

    cheers,
    Damian
