  • VIC Polo 2012 gti

Hi, just wanting some advice. Looking at buying a polo gti but am nervous about negative reviews. Love the drive but certainly don't want any reliability issues. Should I get it????

As a tech at a VW dealer, the only issues I've seen on these is the usual clutch shudder on the DSG boxes and high oil usage. Although vw has a fix for it now.

Thanks for that. But what are the fixes? Easy ones or replacement parts(expensive) fix?

If the car is under warranty it won't cost you anything. There is a fair process involved in the fix. First the dealer has to establish there is an oil usage issue. This is done by setting the oil level then after 1000 km the customer returns the car for a check. If it's used more than 500 ml they will have to fit revised engine breathers, new engine software and reset the oil level. If after 1000 km it's still used more then 500 ml depending on the engine number, it will either get new oil squirters for the Pistons or new oil squirters as well as new pistons and rings.

Great thanks again. It's still under warranty until July next year.

Would be very interesting to know what the percentage of polo gti sold in Australia have these burning oil issues. Obviously more likely to hear the problems than the happy stories.

They are actually supposed to be fitting the breathers and oil injectors all at the same time. Lazy dealers must be following the bulletin half-assed.

Actually no, there is a set process that the dealers must follow in order for warranty to cover the repair.

Have a read of the TPI mate. It says to confirm the oil consumption via the test plan through the VAS. If consumption is calculated to be over 500ml/1000km then there a set of repairs that are to be carried out, depending on the engine code/number in the vehicle. However all repairs are to be carried out at once.

Hmm. Oil consumption on the vas? That was scrapped a while ago as the test plan always gave the same result no matter what oil figures were entered.

Ok, decided to buy a 2014 model. Got a good deal and obviously 3 year warranty. I would like to know the best and most simple way of running in the engine and dsg?

Interested in knowing a little more about these oil breathers and squirters...
Are these the same as the 118TSI Golf? Have they all been revised?
If so do you have part numbers for them?
With the breather, are there any parts to update if im adding a catch can on a 2009 118TSI?
Is there a real improvement on the squirters? If going with forged pistons, will they improve cooling more so than the originals?

Sorry for all the questions. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
