Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Satnav voice Golf7

We have had our Golf 7 90tsi Comfortline for about a month. We're getting used to the car and it's 95% excellent. Having paid out extra for the satnav we are disappointed with the actual voice of the woman giving directions has a pronunciation problem. Words like highway are unrecognizable. Town and road names are so distorted that they are totally useless. An Aldi GPS for $60 does it far better.

You are learning how woeful the Satnav has been for a long time It has old maps, extremely poor text to speech directions and a lack of options as far as voices are concerned.
The RNS 510 does have a male voice in an updated firmware or map Forgotten which.
Due to its custom operating system you cant adapt things like you can in portable models

As a Satnav it makes a great boat anchor LOL

As a media unit its OK

You shouldn't feel like your Golf has been specially selected for poor Sat Nav pronunciation. My highline (103TSI) has exactly the same problem and other problems as well. For example, I bet that your Sat Nav (like mine) doesn't display traffic lights. Other other issues that I'm having relate to the lousy FM radio reception and the fact that "Voice Control" doesn't work.
All these problems I have shared with VW Australia. Their response, (after two months of doing nothing) was to send the problem to VW Germany. I understand that there is now a fix for the "Voice Control" issue (which is still being tested by VWA), but still no fix for the Sat NAV and FM radio issues.

I suggest that you give our very dear friends at VW Australia a call (1800 637 181 - then press options 4). The more folk that complain about these problems the quicker we will get our fix.
Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

The RNS 510 models can display a custom POI list. Look in the Audio forum for how its done Also the Upgrading 510 units with custom firmware etc . Perhaps Kamold will develop something for the Mk 7 unit

Hillbilly: The Mk7 Sat NAv also has an impressive array of POI listings. Through the set-up function, the owner is able to select which particular POI's to display but there is a max number limit - around 6, or 7 different POI's (I think). These work OK on my 103TSI.

              Hi Kamold,
I am new to the site and using the app. I have no idea how to contact you apart from replying to a post. How do I contact you?
I have a passat sedan and saw that you can do an LED upgrade. How much and where?
              Cheers
              Geoff
