QLD Gear box in emergency mode Tiguan 162 TSI 2016

We have owned our Tiguan 2016 162 TSI for 6 years now and have never missed a service, but we have a message "gear box in safety mode safe to drive' It jumps between gears but once it cools down the fault light goes off. Can someone tell us what is happening and what can or should we do?

oh yeah, forgot that we live mount isa ,qld vw dealership is in townsville. 10 hour drive...

Hi and welcome. Its possible that your gearbox has the same/similar issue that has affected quite a number of other Tiguan's. Info in the thread below.

Probably wouldn't recommend driving it to the dealer if its a 10 hour trip.
