Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Just bought 2 Mk4 Golfs for my kids

    Hi All

I've been following this forum for a while, as Ive been in and out of VW's. I thought I would introduce myself and follow up later with some technical queries.

I've bought two cheap unregistered cars for my kids and bought them back to life one is a Blue 1999 Mk4 and the other is a Red 2002 Mk4. They both had all the usual problems like windows, switches and lack of any evidence of timing belts being done. I've now corrected all of that and we are all very happy. Great little cars.

I've been involved with cars for many years and gradually increasing my skill level and ability. When we bought the two Mk4's we became very familiar with removing the insides of doors and windows etc. More recently I've done a timing belt, water pump and tensioner. Changed the big plastic thermostat and switches on an AKL.

I've also got a cheapy Chinese VCD cable and started reviewing codes and clearing faults after repair. So Im feeling reasonably comfortable with these cars. No fault lights on the dash now !!

I hope that I can contribute to this forum as well as learn from the many experienced people.

    Cheers Andrew
