  • Dyno day take 2

After reading the first one it was seriously off topic for ages . I think we should only discuss what actually happened on the dyno . Not on the street or anywhere else , just what car went on the dyno and its figures .

My S3 was a pretty poor result from me due to the car not being finished , its currently at the panel shop getting the front end resprayed and the minor bingle with the door fixed . The power I did make was at 5100 rpm , approx 1000rpm earlier than the previous engine with only 7 kw less , after that it leaned out way too much . It had a new high flow fuel pump fitted with larger fpr . It will be retuned , redynoed and taken to the dragstrip before it finishes its daily driver duties and starts its track duties later this year . Michelle can testify its ease of driving in traffic even with close to 500hp . It also retains the stock exhaust system and stock airbox with stock air filter .

Melissa's black Golf has basically an issue with the engine . Every modification done to the car has yielded minor gains and this dyno day has finally proven something isnt right . Although a lot quicker than Pierre's car in a straight line , its lacking the top end grunt of a KO4 though on the dyno .

Pierre's car has produced a magic number for a ko3s . Still without a front mount the car makes good power with higher than usual intake air temps . This car has a strong healthy engine

Seans Polo being a Guinea pig needs some more work , will be redynoed shortly with a different tune . Should be making a lot more power , and will

Im curious though with Guys car , is it a KO4 or gt28 ? Im hearing rumours and want them confirmed .

Now please keep this on topic !

which we rate at "98 RON Performance = 237kw and 453Nm" - I still have the oettinger larger intercooler, not the APR one in, so there is probably another few kw's in it too.

You will have to take it for a spin, its sooo smooth!

It was a good day and to be wuite honest I only really went to see some good figures. Pierres was a awesome suprise with the amount that he got yet I have also been in Mels black GTI and that seemed alot more punchier than what Pierres did

Sad to hear about Seans car, yet after what I have been told it was the first GIAC'd Polo in Aus with the setup that he had so I guess its acceptable, I can see this car making some really good power!

Yeah I was shocked at the gains from the K03s on Pierre's car. Congrats

I made 20kw and 100nm more at 3000rpm so I'm happy with that just need the 3000-6000rpm fixed haha

Oh and thanks for the day. Always fun talking it up with the boys and girls.

I will say this once and I will delete unless you all adhere to this.

Post if you have something that is a matter of fact.
Do not post if it is a matter of opinion.

Edit: We are also only interested in the results of the day, and not the actions of others.

Older engine don't get! Also the fact that Pierre has done everything to his car besides the front mount and big turbo upgrade.. Either way I still say thats a awesome figure for daily drivers

Our MK5 has the first southern hemisphere Stage 3 kit on it with the GT 2871R.

We pulled the S3 turbo charger off (its a pain as the word Stage 3 and the term S3 turbo sound so similar).

Anyway, we had the car running last Tuesday night, put in the new injectors / intake pump etc etc. did a 20km turbo break in & then on Wednesday Morning did some data logging on the dyno.

Didn't do any software changes, booked it on for new tyres & then Lams drove it 12 hours to Sydney.

It made 230kw @ the wheels, and here is the dyno from that:

& here is the dyno from a couple of weeks earliier with the S3 kit on it:

So apparently it ran 115 kw in Sydney - I still have not seen the dyno plots - but not a bad number!

There is still a lot of power left in the tune (when i get it back from Sydney & get time) - there is zero timing pull & ample amount of fuelling left.

Car still runs a dual mass flywheel - it has a Sach's racing organic clutch - 19" Oettinger wheels, big brakes - perfectly streetable & driven daily (It normally has two baby seats in the back) - those who have driven it in Sydney will attest to that!

I'm just sourcing a spare GTI engine so we can put some stronger rods in it & run Race gas - that will give us around ~440hp instead of capping at the ~390hp we have at the moment!

Just for a dyno comparison, a customer in Toowoomba has the S3 kit on his car, very similar spec to ours (before it went to stage 3) and it dynoed within 1.1kw of what our car did - and that at altitude!

Shame there is no Mainline dyno's in QLD - but we will be happy to stick ours on any dyno, anywhere - they make numbers, not excuses (not having a go at anyone) - just to show that most of the Dyno dynamics we have run on up here all give out pretty much the same numbers.

Does anyone or did anyone collect a copy of our Graphs from the day? - they will still be there otherwise

Thats a nice figure there Guy would have loved to see it on the dyno when I got there it was a bit late and your car was cooling down 10 mins later it took off

Just out of curiosity Ross's car when he had it made 218kw at wheels? in the 1.8T configuration, where there similarities in your car Guy besides the obvious bigger engine?

Hey Steve, I'm not certain - I think Ross's car (which is now Adrian's ???) runs the same turbo (not sure on the exhaust housing size) and I'm not sure if it had strengthened internals or a bigger bore or larger stroke at all either.

The 2871R seems to be able to make 400 - 450hp on a 1.8 - 2.0l - our own TT with the same turbo on it made 230 wkw as well - that's a completely stock motor with 270,000 kms on it!

Now I think your VR6 needs a turbo to get a little more out of it!
