Thanks for sharing Nat. It's tragic. Looks like the back of turn 6. Hopefully we'll find out exactly what caused the crash. Regardless, the driver is going to be quite traumatised. Driving a car on any racetrack is dangerous. Driving cars, period, is dangerous. We assume the risk, but when something like this happens, the risk becomes all the more acute and real in our minds.
My heart goes out to the passenger and driver's family and friends.

Sign me up! (Even as a reserve).

It's my last day off for a while that day so it'll be a nice way to end my holidays

I'll be in either my black Passat or a black S8.

The crash at QR was a very tragic one...this should be a time to reflect on ones actions on the street and the track.
Stick to the core values of Happy Laps. Have fun and be safe.

Given that QRs insurance people were already tightening up, I suspect the tragic events of yesterday may see a stop to the happy lap events.

                We shall wait and see.

I doubt it. The contexts are entirely different. I will say, however, that I, as an organiser, am tightening up on allowing high-powered RWD cars to happy laps.

This is probably a silly question but say for instance at happy laps or a sprint event or something like that, if someone has a crash can other drivers stop and help if it is on fire? Or would this be too dangerous and just let the officials handle it.

Always stop and help if you can. In fact, QR has said that if you use your own fire extinguisher on another vehicle, they'll replace it for you.
Of course it's dangerous and there's no obligation to help. But I can tell you personally, if I were trapped in my own car and it was obvious that I was in danger, I'd want the first person who saw me to come to my rescue. I'd do the same for someone else without hesitation. I also keep a fire extinguisher in the car during sprints, which is not a requirement.

Alright cool, that's what I thought. Wasn't sure if there was some liability stuff where they wouldn't want others to help.

Not at all. Obviously, you wouldn't impede or hinder them when they do arrive on the scene. It's a good question, though, Rhys.

If anyone has an issue with my presence at these events please let me know, either in pm or in person. Got quite a shock when the QR organizer told me people from here had complained... Anyone who has seen me will know I'm possibly the least intimidating person ever, so not sure why you would go to the organizers without mentioning anything to me first.

This is happy laps people, it's not meant to be serious laps or practice laps, we all need to lighten up. These were more fun at the start in 2011 when the events were more chill and there was more of a mix of cars. I'd love to see some more older dubs out there again instead only mk5 + 6 golfs and polos

Anyway, keen to get out on the track again, see you all there

You're right Ben, if people have a problem they should confront you directly. However, at other events, officials actually discourage drivers from approaching other drivers--they'd rather you tell a marshall and have them sort it out for you.

I realise that HL might have evolved into something different than before and it might not be everyone's cup of tea. Unfortunately, it's probably a natural progression, rather than a forced one. It will also depend on the mix of people who happen to be interested in HL at any given time.

Having said that, there is a push from QR that HL be a stepping-stone to more serious track events, rather than just a fun, happy, laid back cruise. So that's probably been an influencing factor.
