Would've been a cool day for a drive but I took the R32 down to the 4's, 6 and rotaries cruise the night before, Dont want to put too many kms on the girl.
If my T1 beetle had water to air intercoolers, does that qualify for a vwwatercooled cruise?

I had the plates made up by a place who use the proper German blanks, Custom Euro Plates. They sent them over in the correct black/silver finish to match my license plate agreement, along with the screws and black screw caps, and I had them add a half space before the J to offset the text to the right.
I drilled them and the car mount, fitted, then I had a guy I know make up some silver vinyl stickers using the same official European plate font and my measurements and I picked those up literally on the way home from the cruise and fitted immediately after. Voila! Done to OCD spec.
As for unwanted attention, I don't expect to, but it is possible. The legality of it is murky, it complies fully with the motor vehicles act on plate specifications, but my registrar agreement with ServiceSA is to run custom type plates which have a set dimension outlined in the gazette (Slim, standard or square dimensions are listed but not Euro) - that technicality could burn me despite complying with the act. It's annoying as the act contradicts itself in this area.
Having said all that, all exotics with stickers instead of plates, anyone who makes their own plate or dodgies up an old plate with whiteout to fix it, anyone who drills new holes in a plate and a wide variety of other scenarios are even more explicitly illegal, but I personally have never heard of anyone being done for it although I'm sure people have. I've seen a lot of cars with non compliant plates including at meets with guys here. I think it boils down to unless they have a specific reason to want to hurt you, and they actually notice it's the wrong size, you would be very unlucky to be pinged.
