If anyone has any ideas on how to improve the show from a watercooled perspective please PM me. I've all ready suggested a few things for improvement but keen to hear from other people

The fluff up with the awards is sort of understandable, mistakes do happen. The club dealt with it at the time was slightly disappointing (as Snowy had mentioned), but probably worst is that no-one noticed (or cared to mention) that mk 3's werent made in 2004. Anyways, not really that much of an issue, but could have been handled better.
I was bummed that we weren't on the grass again this year. It' always nice to be able to spread the cars out and give them some room, rather than have them lined up and squashed in like sardines. I know it's hard to estimate how many cars will come and how much room you'll need for them etc, but at the end of the day, I felt that there was plenty of room for the cars to have been more spread out. Just my view on that. Obviously the location thing was sort of unavoidable, and I was glad that the show went ahead with the new location, regardless.
It was good to see alot of old and new cars and faces there.
I have to say that I was pretty rapped about winning best mk 3! against some really stiff competition! And best wheels award was nice too! Thanks Car Care Products.
I'd like to think that I'll be there next year too!
Also, if anyone has a spare left fender trim, please sell it too me, cause mine fell off on the way up!
Thought I was all set, until my passenger side window regulator decided to pack it in, the night before the departure.
Went to VW the next morning but of course, they didn't have one. They also wanted crazy money.
Thankfully, the boys at Volkwerke brought me up a regulator and fitted it for me on the Saturday, for cheaper than VW wanted for the part!
Special thanks to Mitch for bringing a new Mk3 up for me. Also special thanks for Dylan and Jarred for checking it out for me.
Trip to Canberra was pretty good. Probably should have checked my oil level of my car before I left though. Oil level light decided to come on about 5 mins from Yass service station. Thankfully I hadn't busted a sump. Was fine after topping it up.
Somehow managed to not get a speeding fine which was also a bonus. Destroyed most of our cars trying to get over the speed bump at the accomodation. (The pole next to the speedbump somehow "fell" out over night, letting us drive around it from then on in) Dinner at Brodburger, many laughs and racist jokes.
Managed to get extremely burnt on Saturday while waiting at the car wash. So, spent the rest of the weekend looking like a lobster crossed with Abraham Lincoln.
From the car wash we went to Canberra Volkswagen Centre. Volkswerke boys had a bit of clutch trouble with their VR6T powered Audi 80. They managed to have the gearbox out, clutch fixed and gearbox back in, in 4 hours. Proves they know what they are doing!
Brodburger again for dinner and then back to the apartments. Some of the guys decided to go out drinking, so I was woken up at 4:30am to a drunken baboon jumping up and down on my back. Payback was sweet when I got up at 6:30am.
Washed car again bright and early before the show, got into our "Sir" costumes and got our Beethoven CD's cranking. Costumes only lasted 15 minutes though since it was another scorching day for the show. Great location I thought. Awesome cars! Shame about the mix-up with the trophies and the general rudeness.
Felt like a celebrity with my trike. Everyone wanted to take pictures and talk to me about it! Great success!
White Aristos seemed popular too (More popular than my BBS Impuls, which I can't understand )
Afternoon tea at Brodburger AGAIN!! followed by a thrash up (and down) Mt Stromlo to the observatory for some sneaky photos.
Delicious Pizza Hut for dinner before early bed for early departure Monday morning.
Easy 3 hour drive home for me.
New friends, German cars, chicks that squat. Thanks for the laughs, guys and gals!
Bring on the next show!!!!!
Smead, the only improvement I can suggest is more watercoolers. We need to work on outnumbering the aircoolers.
No probs just to let you know watercooled outnumbered air cooled this year as well as last year too. Venue change unfortunately was unavoidable. Hopefully next year we'll be back on the grass. As for the trophy issues I'm also putting forward suggestions to avoid that issue next year too

I dont at all think we need to "out number" the aircoolers. If you look at how many aircooled VW's are in Australia: Beetle, Type3, Kombi, T3, KG etc, then you have oval, split, bay and so on. No way can we be competing.
Instead of being stuck up "new comers" we should love the aircooled stuff and try to bridge the air vs water debate. Its dumb. Black or white you are still human.

Yeah I definitely came across a bit against aircooled with my previous comments, but I'm sure those guys would feel the same if someone with a type 3 won the 'best beetle' category.
I'll definitely be there next year (maybe in something other than a Polo!), was the best show I've been to - what Jarred said with spacing is totally right. But yeah with the venue change that's understandable. Looking forward to next year guys

Are you guys serious??
Why does it have to be a competition about aircooled vs watercooled?
Hi all, I would like to thank everyone who came along to the show this year.
The mix-up with the trophy was regrettable, but as has been pointed out on the forum, it was due to an error in carrying numbers over in the judging paperwork. Whilst it may have seemed that 'the club' wasn't interested in fixing the problem, you would have seen in the background that as soon as this was brought up, the judges headed back to the tent straight away and got back into the numbers. It was being checked whilst the rest of the trophies were being handed out.
We either had to keep going, or stop and wait for maybe 10 mins or so while it was fixed. We had already had people standing in the sun during the speeches, let alone the 15 min wait at the beginning whilst the final figures were still tallied. I felt it best that with an error identified, up front we needed to move on and continue with the other 'known' trophies, whilst it was being looked at in the background. And it was fixed, by the judges and club staff.
Its been mentioned that we had an air-cooled bias, and that it wouldn't have happened for the air cars. It has done in the past, just for info. We have 'guest' judges, who volunteer (are volunteered?) on the day, that do not belong to our club, and they do their best to judge the cars for us. This year, with the number of cars, the judging was still being finalised when the presentation started, leading to the figures being rushed through. It was an error, that was all.
There was a line earlier about 'knowing the models', we spent time putting together people with a good cross section of VW experience as our judges on the day. The truth of the matter is that 3 of the 4 guest judges class themselves as more water-oriented. I don't believe we could get any more 'water' knowledge in the group than that. Please do not feel that this was biased to air as the judging certainly was not.
I was the monkey up the front at the presentation. I am not there because of my mechanical knowledge, or my ability to recognise the difference in a Mk 2 and 3 taillight. I am not there to show off my ability to speak in public. I am there because the committee has felt that I have the ability to pull together a band of enthusiasts for the common good, in this case to put on a show. Nothing more. I am happy to admit that my background is air-cooled, whilst we do have a modern VW in the family I would rather an older one, no problems in making that public. But to me a VW is a VW, whether old, new, ratty, modified, whatever. The fact that I can't tell the models in a Golf (1, 5, and 6 is OK!) doesn't mean I should not be up the front. Have a think about how you would be, after being up at 4.30am, walking in the hot sun all day (I didn't sit down all day), and then standing in front of around 300 people, in the sun, who have also had a long day (especially travellers), who all want their car to win a trophy.
We started planning for that show in March, and on top of our planning, Smead also had to work with a separate event committee for the overall event. I would hate to equate how many thousands of hours we have put into the organisation, but I would rather it wasn't known as the show with the Mk3 Trophy problem. Shows are not easy to run as many people would tell you.
Again, thanks to all who came along and made it a huge VW day, I know some of you trekked some decent distance to be there.
