Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD Queensland Raceway Happy Laps (v.9) 29-09-12 Breakfast

    Round 9 Happy Laps!!
This time it’s Queensland Raceway for lunch ($25) - it's lunch laps at brekky prices due to a communication hiccup at QR!
It is a Saturday again – this was the only date available at QR in September.
The Safety Briefing/Breakfast starts at 12:15 and we should be out on the track by 12:30pm.
It is recommended that people arrive in plenty of time, maybe around 12:00 incase they want us to have lunch prior to going on the track.

    Menu:
    TBA

    Rules:
Following on from Lakeside Happy Lap Rules (but subject to confirmation at briefing):
    • No PPE gear required (i.e. no need for a helmet, fireproof long sleeved shirt etc).
    • Do not frustrate other drivers by holding them up in corners and then making it difficult for them to pass you on the straights –
watch your mirrors, be considerate and move over on the straights, and if necessary slow down to let them pass
    • No undercutting to overtake on the corners.
    • Only overtake on straight sections of the track
    • If you are not overtaking anyone on the straight stay to one side of the track and let quicker cars overtake

    People other than the driver:
People who wish to split the driving are required to pay the same amount ($25) as the driver.
People who wish to have the luch meal will have to pay the $25 fee.
People who want to be passenger and not do any driving, need only pay the $25 fee if they want to have the lunch meal.
People who wish to watch from trackside do not have to pay unless they want lunch.

Given there was some feedback about the track being busy at the last event, I have capped the Main List to 25 cars, so that we can invite 5 from another group to join for variety and still keep the numbers to 30. We generally find there are a few people dropping out closer to the date, so there’s usually opportunity for people who find themselves on the reserve list. I will place non-forum members straight onto the reserve list this time around to give forum members preference.

If the Main List fills up, forum member nominations will go on the reserve list and when/if someone pulls out you will get moved from reserve into the main list.
Unfortunately if you do not make it to the main list you can't be accommodated at the event (apart from spectating or as a passenger) but if there are any remaining on the reserve list by the cut-off date I will place them on the main list at the next event at QR to give a fair spread.

Please let me know if you are coming and how many people you will be bringing with you for catering purposes.

Queensland Raceway is located about 20 minutes west of Ipswich just off the Cunningham Highway (travelling towards Warwick) at the end of Champions Way at the Ipswich Motorsport Precinct. Turning right into Champions Way from Cunningham Highway, you will go past Willowbank Drag Strip and Ipswich Kart Track. Go to the end of the road (kinks to the right) and turn left into the Qld Raceway carpark. You should be able to park close to the Control Tower which is where the briefing will be held.

Be aware that there are frequently speed camera vans located on the highway close to the venue!

          In like Flynn!

Might want to check a few things though.
Last time at Lakeside they put up a "traffic calming" chicane before the bridge.
Also, cars had to be road registered to be on the track (wasn't an issue previously)
Also, passengers are apparently able to ride for free (no breakfast) however most choose to eat as you are out there early and don't leave until 9am or so.

Please add me for this too. Great to hear the capping at 30 cars. Now as long as we're not on the sprint circuit, that number should be sweet. Thanks for organising.
