Yeah, it just seemed busier this time round. In the graphs above, you can see when I've come off the throttle at the 50sec mark. When I play the telemetry, its interesting to see when I've braked that bit later or picked up the throttle earlier. I can probably upload that video, will have a look at how to do that. Would be awesome to video it and have the telemetry overlapping. My dad was in the car but we recorded only one lap, I think it was lap 1 than we forgot about it, lol.
do you think the numbers need to reduce a little with the Lakeside?? Traffic was fine with QR, but seem keep running into traffic in Lakeside.
Also anyone got more photos??

Definitely the Check Engine light. Started on the straight when S mode (I know, I know... I went manual after that) decided to red line the gearbox. Then it taunted me with a slow flash for half a lap. Not sure of the significance...
It defenatly felt more congested but was still fun. I found I did not have the pace on the straight of the turbo cars and then on the corners could not get a run cause of the traffic. In saying that we want as many new comers to get a taste of the tracks like we have done. We are getting better but they are still learning their cars limits which only comes with practice.
I think maybe a sprint event would be the go for the guys and girls that are getting abit more used to their cars - but one organised maybe by Water Cooled VW's so there are not to many cowboys there. But the sprints are quiet a big steep up and generally the Hyundai Excel's are doing 1.15's all day and night with a 80kW engine. I still feel a bit intimidated knowing at Lakeside I feel I am flying doing a 1.15 or there abouts and most of the other cars are doing around 0.10 secs quicker than me. So I know what you guys are saying but think maybe we might need a different type of event platform if we want to start going quicker.
I don't want this to sound like I am knocking the XR5 boys, I was a newbie once myself and I am sure there were people I held up too. There were some unusual lines being run out there.
Thing is, if someone is up your chuff lap after lap, there's a good chance they can drop you, if they let you past. I was pleased to see that everyone did the right thing and didn't get impatient yesterday.
Even letting a few folk through at the start of the straight didn't get you much of a run. You caught them up inside half a lap.

Yeah that was the issue I had. I had the whole straight clear on a few occasions than catch 2/3's around or find someone sitting in the middle of the track into turn one when coming in at twice their speed. In saying that, everyone I saw kept their heads on. I'd be keen to see if we can organise a sprint style event or happy laps with half as many cars, even at twice the price As jimmyc says, the idea here is/was to get new comers. Though sprints can still end with 20 cars on the track and doesn't mean there is parity amongst lap times which is very frustrating given the cost and 5 laps per session you get. lap times are a bit quicker as you typically treat it as a sprint, rather than the nature of these events.

Might see what Lakeside can offer for a lesser cars, more stricter environment in the future as an additional event on top of happy laps as we now have people who are "seasoned happy lappers"
A few things to say about this morning... met a few boys at the servo bit of a chin wag and drove up to Lakeside.....nice.
How good was that bacon and eggs, chin wag and putting a few faces to names and onto track.....nice.
Now, I don't know about any other newbies but fark how quick did that 25 minutes go hey!
Good people, some fast cars and happy faces doesn't get much better than that on your birthday!....cheers boys looking forward to a few more.
Thanks to PBW for the footage. It's not long but has a bit of Clay and those XR5s......move over!
Nice video there, gets a little warped going around corners which makes for some hilarious body-roll type effects haha.
Just so everyone is aware, at the practice session after our laps a jag went off into the gravel at the hairpin.
At the sprint session in the arvo apparently they had a car go into the tyres after the kink.
I think if we ever do organise something a bit more full on than happy laps, people need to be aware that these things do happen.
So far we have been very lucky that nothing has gone wrong.
or we can keep lakeside as where the happy lap holds and use QR for more Hardcore events. And for QR, we dun need to have to use the Full national track everytime. The small track is also good fun

I think some of us are losing sight of what happy laps are all about. I acknowledge that the boy-racer resides in many of us, but that attitude could spoil these events in the future.
I'm sure Clay wouldn't want to see his efforts wasted.
Ive been out for a few proper track days, where all the safety gear is needed etc. That is a lot more full on! Happy laps is not a track day, and is about $200 cheaper too.
MK4 GTI - Sold
MK5 Jetta Turbo - Sold
MK5 Jetta 2.Slow - Until it dies.
I would love to start doing timed sessions. It's not that expensive apparently when we have the numbers we do. Being my fifth happy laps or so I can see the regulars getting better and better so I think it's a natural progression. I know I have improved so much since my first time out. Massive thanks to Clay for the opportunity in the first place. I still think there will always be a place for happy laps but want to get some official times now!
I would prefer Lakeside to QR, I think it has more to offer for the Polo.
