Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

LP runs 2.4km per lap, QR Sprint is 1.89km and QR Clubman is 2.11km.

Having said that i have capped the previous events at LP at 30 and the extras form the reserve list almost always get used up so we only have 30 cars out there anyway.
If we get a choice of circuit, I rate the clubman arrangement. IMO, It's got a bit more character than national and sprint, and turn 3 back onto itself also drops about 4ft elevation, rewarding a balanced car and gentle throttle, or getting loose for those that aren't or overcook entry

i like the Clubman too for proper left turns. the normal circuit will probably kill the brakes quicker and i absolutely hate the "chicanes" on the sprint circuit.

40 is a huge number of cars to circulate within 2km's of each. You'd be lucky to get a clear lap, faster cars will get the 5hits... Doing the sprints with 15-20 is difficult to get a clear lap when the cars are lapping within 5 sec of each other.
            you're already in too!

Sounds like the Clubman curcuit is the go if we get a choice - I have asked them what are the options and waiting for the Happy laps dude to get back in the office tomorrow.

Re: the number on the track; QR advised me that we need at least 30 to make it viable, so that's a given. They also indicated that 60 -70 on the track is easily manageable, and that they've had 90 on the track (and I quote) "with no worries at all". It might be a different story if you ask some of those 90 drivers if it was enjoyable though...

Clay probably has a point, if there are some people dropping out, it might end up pared back anyway.

Happy to take feedback on the cap limit though!....

This time it’s Queensland Raceway for breakfast ($25) Apologies to people who requested Saturdays, this was the only remaining weekend date available in May (Sunday 27th May).
The Safety Briefing/Breakfast starts at 7:30 and we should be out on the track by 8:30am.
It is recommended that people arrive in plenty of time, maybe around 7:20.

                Menu:
                Fresh toast
                Fried or Scrambled eggs
                Crispy bacon
                Gourmet chipolatas
                Baked beans
                Tea & coffee

                Rules:
Following on from Lakeside Happy Lap Rules (but subject to confirmation at briefing):
                • No PPE gear required (i.e. no need for a helmet, fireproof long sleeved shirt etc).
                • No undercutting to overtake on the corners.
                • Only overtake on straight sections of the track
                • If you are not overtaking anyone on the straight stay to one side of the track and let quicker cars overtake

                People other than the driver:
People who wish to passenger/split the driving are required to pay the same amount as the driver.
People who wish to watch from trackside do not have to pay unless they want breakfast.
Anyone can come and passenger with you if they are willing to pay for breakfast.

With Queensland Raceway being a slightly bigger track than Lakeside, and there being more safe “run-off” areas, I have been advised that we could have at least 40 cars on the track. We might trial this number depending on interest, and if it works well we can repeat at the next outing, otherwise we can adjust as appopriate.

If the Main List fills up, nominations will go on the reserve list and when/if someone pulls out you will get moved from reserve into the main list.
Unfortunately if you do not make it to the main list you can't be accommodated at the event (apart from spectating or as a passenger) but if there are any remaining on the reserve list by the cut-off date I will place them on the main list if we organise another event at QR to give a fair spread.

Please let me know if you are coming and how many people you will be bringing with you for catering purposes.

Queensland Raceway is located about 20 minutes west of Ipswich just off the Cunningham Highway (travelling towards Warwick) at the end of Champions Way at the Ipswich Motorsport Precinct. Turning right into Champions Way from Cunningham Highway, you will go past Willowbank Drag Strip and Ipswich Kart Track. Go to the end of the road (kinks to the right) and turn left into the Qld Raceway carpark. You should be able to park close to the Control Tower which is where the briefing will be held.

Be aware that there are frequently speed camera vans located on the highway close to the racetrack.

Thanks to Clay for the template!

I have placed those who expressed interest on the "Calling for Interest" thread on the main list. If you can't make it, please let me know.

Aaron, would it be ok for me to bring a mate to drive his WRX? it is not a Euro but fast enough to compete with most of the Euros on the list on both straight and corners he wants to test his new tune.

His name is Brendan if that's ok to add him to the list..

Following some feedback about the numbers on the track, I’ve compromised back from 40 to 35 – how does that sound to everyone?

Also – could everyone comment re: Nat’s request above for his workmate to join us in his WRX. I’m mindful of the Euro only preference for the Happy Laps, but if we were to make sure that he was aware of the rules and he was happy to comply, then it would probably be good to have a little diversity on the track - Let me know....

My wife drives a B4 liberty suby, so I have a soft spot for rice burners, I wouldn't see a problem......................... unless hes from the boost cruzin forums and wears a monster energy drink hat.....jokes.....and lets not forget the last time we got a ricer on the track the car ended up in a cloud of dust of the track at lakeside. (if the member of that car reads this, it was genuine awesome seeing that though....good times ) but I have to be honest it was great when i drove through the dust and felt like a rally driver with my dope sub and 4motion system. haha

So long as the rules are followed and the rexie owner is aware that there are some seriously quick cars out on the track so they may have to let them pass I am okay with it.

I think the problem begins when you get people who believe they are faster and don't need to let people overtake them.

Agree with clay. I have no problem with other cars as long as consideration is given to each car and drivers strengths and weaknesses.

i think the most important thing is the attitude and behaviour of the drivers and not really what cars they drive.

i am planning to sell the Golf for an 86 later and i would still love to join you guys on these sessions. i must say i have been to happy laps organised by a few forums and this forum runs the best organised sessions.
