Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I went out to the Big Kart Track on the fringe of the Sunny Coast last night and had heaps of fun. First time ever been there and on a go kart. Had a couple of spins, but passed a whole heap of other karts in the corners

I had an idea that we could have a VWW event where we cruise up to the sunny coast and head out on the track for an hour (2 x 30 min blocks). If we could get 15-20 ppl, that would be awesome and potentially have some massive egos to boast afterward.

What do you all think? Anyone keen for this?

Ok awesome - we have 19 now so plenty for a competitive run.

In terms of start time, I say 7:30-8:00, as most of us are coming from Brisbane (or Gold Coast in Rob's case). That will give us time to get ready (or have dinner - which I am not to save weight on the kart ).

So, if I have no other comments/suggestions, I say we LOCK IN 2 March for 7:30-8:00. It will be $85 in total. I will call the track tomorrow to get us in there. Afterwards, we can decide what to do next.....

Is 7:30 not a bit late? Might be dark/closed by then (haven't read the thread so not sure if this has been covered).

                    It closes at 10:00.

7:30 is good as it will be 1hr+ for most of us coming from Brisbane. We will be racing at night which is fine as it is cooler anyway so the karts will be faster. Although in retrospec, 7:00 is better as we can go out for the first half, break for 20 mins to let the karts cool off then go out again.

If we do that, hopefully most of us can leave work at 5:00-5:30 to get there in time, allowing for the usual Friday arvo traffic and all.

FYI - Do not take the Steve Irwin turnoff (despite the sign saying the kart track is there) as this road is like 60 km/h - go further up and take the next turnoff. It will get you there 10-15 mins faster.

So that's a meet time of 7.30 at the track?

Is the exit you talk about getting us there quicker, is that the Caloundra exit?

I think I'll have to bail on this, might have work on too late.

The start time is 7:30 (when we actually want to be starting in our karts), so it would be good to get people there between 7:00-7:30. Obviously, allow some time due to distance to travel there, but we should not let it lag too long as we want a good 15-20 mins in between the sessions to allow the karts to cool down and also give people to opportunity to switch karts if they like (and also brag and create some competitive tension for round 2 )

I think so re. the exit. Will double check... All I know is that when I went last, those who took the Steve Irwin exit were like 15 mins behind.
