Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      • Got back home an hour ago. What a Sunday! Haven't had one as packed as yesterday, felt like it was a couple of days compressed into one! Huge thanks goes to the Melbourne crew for being such a friendly and funny bunch!

Couldn't get the time off work again so we (Bima and I) went down in the VR6 on the Saturday night. I was planning on flying down at first but I couldn't refuse Bima jiggling a set of VR6 keys at me. Massive thanks goes to him for letting me drive it and be my company for the day.

The VR6 munched down the kilometres to Melbourne like it was a walk in the park. We left Sydney at 7:30pm and got to Melbourne by 3:30am with a half-hour break in there somewhere. So yeah, we did it pretty quick I reckon. I couldn't believe how easy it was to drive the VR6 (then again I come from driving a manual steering, no A/C, subframe-bashing 2.slow). The drive back was just as sublime - no hiccups. Goes to show that a VR6 can be awesome to own if maintenance is kept up!

Sunday morning started pretty ****ty for us - a short downpour after a decent clean at a 24hr car wash, and searching for accommodation for 2.5 hours or so around North Melbourne and the CBD, but getting nothing - should've booked in hindsight. So ended up calling (waking) Dom and meeting with him to cruise to the show. Had some fun with the Golf R and B3 in the convoy.

Yarra Glen was a pretty cool venue. Massive, and the walk from one end of the show to the other was agonisingly long. To be honest I liked the Cranbourne place better, but it was still awesome. The weather held out, with clouds lurking around before clearing. Dubs started trickling in along with the familiar faces. Met new ones too but didn't get to say hi to everyone. I was out of it most of the time. Remind me to get time off work in advance for SEDF!

As James mentioned already, the aftershow was spent driving through some nice roads to Sugarloaf armed with chips and conversations, before going to Warrendyte for some dinner (scallops were great). Unexpected shenanigans occurred with the local folk, but I'd blame that on too much booze and not enough brains, not Melbourne haha. Then it was to our (booked) accommodation for a much needed ****, shower and shut-eye.

Bima and I left Melbourne all relaxed this morning, and got some photos down along the way. The more I do the drive to Melbourne, the quicker it gets. I'm lovin' it!

        My highlights:
        • Driving the VR6
        • Dom welcoming us with a Golf R and an expresso shot
        • First time seeing the B3 at the petrol station, and watching a random guy drop his jaw when Dom airs it up when a cop car dropped in. Gold!
        • Jarred's mo'
        • Pete's Mk3 - I miss the steelies!
        • Tim's Mk3, after reading/seeing it on the forums for so long, even though it's a green one now!
        • Datzed's Mk1. PHWOAR!!
        • Some of the aircooled stuff
        • Secrets not being secret
        • The roast - Josh, you're a legend
        • The dubbers helping out when the **** happened at Warrendyte - proud to know these fellas

Can't wait for SEDF, hopefully with my Mk3! Photos to come soon.

        • What a fantastic weekend!

Was great to see everyone (sorry I didn't get to chat to everyone!)

          Friday:
Me and Waterboy did a bit of "spotting" down chapel. The we met up with the crew and had soem pretty tastey food! (Good choice Dom) Then we all hung out and talked motor vehicles in a car park for who knows how long!

          Saturday:
          Worked

          Sunday:
Wakey wakey hand of snakey before the birds even thought about chirping! Cruised to the first meet point with a crazy mexican (J-RAD). Got to the meet point to find at least triple the previous years turnout!!!! VOLKSWAGENS!!!! Had an epically mad time in the cabby cruising with the top down and the nerf hanging out.

          Highlights:

          -The amount of waterpumpers!!!!
-Sneaky Petes amazingly awesome job on his VR6!!
-Eranga's stanced out vortex loving pimp machine! (is that how you spell it dude?)
-Giving away secrets about my future plans :p
-Eating meat off that leg Josh cooked! (YUMMM)
-Seeing and conversing with the crew!

Bring on SEDF where I should have something to show you all (and its not in my pants)

              • Yeah good to hear you made it home well Ray. Looking forward to seeing your mk3 in SEDF.
More people should have cruised around the grounds in their rides.

Echo Jarrads comments, more interstaters the better.

                    • I'm finally home and catching up on what has happened over the weekend

After driving down Saturday, show Sunday and working in Melbourne on Monday I decided it was a good idea to then make a run for the border on Monday afternoon... Got home a little before 1am and boy was I glad to collapse into bed

Seems I also managed to hit every bug in Victoria on the way out. It go so bad I had to stop just to clean the windscreen so I could see

I didn't take a lot of photo's but have uploaded them here:

Yeah was heaps better the way we went and I managed to get 601.1km on a single tank! Yarra Glen show ground all the way to Yass with an 8th of a tank still left. (Mind you my leg was killing me when I got out lol) FYI: usually only get 450km/tank on highway driving

                          • Had an great day guys, great to catch up with the crew again and meet a couple of new guys.

Was so tired saturday night after getting up early to detail the jetta before dylan arrived. Then we both spent the arvo cleaning the bora and test fitting my euro's to his car.

Then it was off for a cruise along the esplanade to mornington for dinner, then a quick mainy on our way to my new fav spot to shoot some night shots of the bora before heading home and to spend some time looking up vw's on the net.

Will post what pics i have up shortly and keen to see dylan's photos
