Thanks for all the kind words guys Really means a lot to hear that everyone had a good time etc.

Big thanks must go to the following people:

Smythie (aka Tony)... Thank you once again for your marshalling expertise on Friday. The day would not have been the success it was without you ... A few of us stopped by the Skylines Australia Day on Saturday, & compared to our day, it looked like it was run by amateurs!

Revenger (aka Gavin)... Thanks for looking after all the safety aspects of the day & for making sure everyone upheld the rules. I don't think there was one moment where any of us felt unsafe on the track

Roddez (aka Rod)... Thanks for organising the trophies. It was nice to get the majority of the group together & have a good laugh & reward those who really surprised us with their track performance.

Coyote (aka Tony)... Thanks for coming mate & making the drive all the way down from Brisvegas! It was absolutely fantastic to meet you & your ride... Even after a 12 hour drive you still gave everyone a run for their money on the track! PS – Noozl liked the surprise you left for him

Really looking forward to next years day & I can assure you it's already in the making!

        A few highlights:

        * A Lamborgini turning up.

        * Hot laps in the Lamborgini.

        * Running a 1:13 in WASABI v 2.0

        * Shano's face when he got hot laps in a 911 Turbo & the Lamborgini

        * The smile on Mario's face as he punted his little Mirage around the track

Obviously there were a heap more, but the rest will just get to stay with the attendee’s

Just a quick heads up to let you know that next year's day is already in the planning stages... Just waiting to confirm a date

Also, for those who ordered the photo's from this years event, I believe they were dispatched last week & should be with you in the not too distant future.

              Hi guys!

If anyone is still waiting on their photos, there seems to have been an addressing issue & some have gone back to the sender

Things have been rectified & were despatched again earlier in the week & should be with you all soon

Sorry to revive an old thread, but is insurance possible for track days such as these?
AAMI won't cover me, but I was wondering if there is a one day policy available anywhere?

I only know of shannon's who insure for drive days... check their T&C

Otherwise, "one-day policy" can also mean "don't tell them you were at the track that ONE DAY" and make sure you can it drive home and "swerve for a roo"..

Last week when chasing insurance for my gti, I asked Shannon's if they insured track days, they said no.

                      Shannons and racing cover

Here are a couple of lifts from Shannons Product Disclosure Statement

                      Page 6

                      RACING EXCESS
This excess will be shown on your certificate. We will apply
this excess if you have the Racing endorsement shown on
your certificate and is in addition to your basic excess.

                      Page 26

Racing cover. If this endorsement is shown on your
certificate or is otherwise approved by us in writing,
subject strictly to the terms of that endorsement or
approval, we will pay for loss or damage to your motor
vehicle if at the time of loss or damage you are driving or
using your motor vehicle whilst participating in, preparing
for, practicing for or familiarisation for a Motor Sport event,
                      but only if the event is either;
                      • an event sanctioned by a Motor Sport Governing Body,
and your participation in that event requires a license of
any kind issued by a Motor Sport Governing Body and
you are the holder of such a license, or
                      • an event which has been approved by us in writing or by
way of endorsement to your policy

But becomes a bit confusing and could be worth a call to Shannons because

                      p27

We will not pay more than the agreed value of your motor
vehicle or $20,000 whichever is the lesser, less the excess
                      shown on your certificate.
We will not pay any claim for legal liability arising from the
use of your motor vehicle when participating in, preparing
for, practicing for or familiarisation for any Motor Sport
event, whether or not that event is sanctioned by a Motor
Sport Governing Body or requires a license issued by a
Motor Sport Governing Body to participate in.

                      Link to the PDS is

Insurance on the track is basically non existant these days.

I know Porsche Insurance (Vero) used to cover you on the track, but after someone wrote off their 3 days old GT3 (300K + car) on the track, it quickly was removed.

IMHO, the sort of days most of us are likely to attend are not "race days" they a really "drive days"... So by all means you are going to be driving faster then you can legally on teh street, but your not going to be pushing your car to 10/10's.

When you look at tracks like Wakefield which have lots of room for error, I don't think you'll have an issue...

Just remember, your not driving someone elses car, & more then likely it will be your daily driver... So you just need to drive appropreately. At the end of the day, you want to be able to drive it home

Some insurance policies will cover specific driving days on a race track - my Cayenne is insured should I take it to one of Porsche's Level 1 or 2 instructional track days, and the italian is covered for specific 'defensive driving' courses which may involve track driving. None of those policies cover racing, sprint or open track day events.

The other consideration is that, even if you are covered by insurance, I've seen more people at the track suffer mechanical failure than run into things, and your insurance policy most likely doesn't cover that sort of failure on the road let alone the race track. If you're worried about the cost of repairs should you run off the track then make sure your car is fully prepared and mechanically reliable as you're more likely to incur repair costs from a vehicle failure than an off-track incident.

I've seen several car written off or badly damaged at Wakefield. The main dangers are either the turn on to the main straight, where the pit entry gets you if you spin to the outside of the track, or losing it through turns 1 and 2 and going straight on to the wall. The latter one is really only for cars capable of sub 1'10". Other, less common places are crashing into the flag points at the top of the track or understeering off at the fishhook and tripping the car over in a dried rut.

The points about driving within yourself and having a well maintained car are absolutely correct. If the red mist comes down, do everyone a favour and get off the track. Watch your mirrors and let cars pass that are faster than you through the turns if not the straights.

The idea of track days is fun and education. Damage is not fun and a hard way to learn lessons.
If you dig a hole and it is in the wrong place, digging it deeper isn't going to help.
