Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

There is minimal housing around this area too so no pplz to upset...

                    • ok now that the meeting point has been officialised!

I'd like to make a suggestion in regards to the actuall driving; Seeing that there is a lot of cars, can we split the goup in two, crazies to the front and slow cruisers in the 2nd pack. We can all leave together but if the front gets too far ahead then the second group will be fine due to having a leader too??

                      Jus a thought . . . .

Well ... if you put it like that ... what makes you think there'll be a second group?

                        • KI11Z i can see your point mate, but thats one reason we have 3 stops throughout the trip and also the map books. I guess the easiest thing to do would be to try and get up the front. Also i will be going last so if there is a split for some reason i will be able to take the lead. Please bring along cb's as well so contact can be kept to as many people as possible. But having said that its Golfers call if he like the idea well we will run with it.

                          • Theres always peeps who wanna jus cruise and instead of a "leader" at the back Shanneth i think you would be better off leading the 2nd pack? Just that if the first lot breaks away the front man of the second pack mightn't know where to go? . . . dont know . . . just my opinion

Interesting thought Alex, however I think for the most part people should be happy with the pace I will set. It is afterall a 'cruise', and while we will most likely be enjoying the 'lively' performance and cornering abilities of our respective rides, the main attraction of the day will be getting a chance to share the same space of road as 30-odd other shiny Dubs, their owners and some of the most stunning terrain in this part of the world!!!

Don't think that I haven't considered that my old girl might not set the same cracking pace as the "Big Boys", but having said that, I led on the test cruise, and Shane in the Polo GTI had his hands full keeping up with me at some points.

Now while I would prefer the group stay together for logistical purposes and for everyone's enjoyment as a whole, I do understand that there are some peeps with hot blood who will get excited by the awesome driving roads and want to go on ahead. If they chose to do so, I would ask that they-

                              (a) Wait at the next checkpoint to meet up with other members for the 'social' and photographic aspects of the cruise (which IMO is just as important as the driving itself). We want everyone there for the "meet and greets" and the photo opportunities. What use is a 30 strong cruise if there are only 20 cars around for pics?
                              (b) Be responsible for their own navigation. I cannot lead the "crazies" group, as my car simply isn't fast enough, so those who feel the need to go ahead will have to navigate themselves (which is often confusing in this terrain). Shane and I took a wrong turn on the test run, and so we know how easy it is for that to happen.
                              (c) Be accountable for their actions - If they chose to drive at breakneck pace, they need to be aware that there ARE highway patrol cars on the route we are taking. Shane and I came across them on the test run, and they eyed us off with interest. Remember they may be reading this thread and could be lying in wait for us... Please DO NOT draw undue attention to our convoy by broadsliding corners or speeding through townships.

On the day, everyone will have a fantastic day, despite how hard they drive their cars. I can just about guarantee that!!! If anyone runs into problems, I would suggest everyone have a CB radio and their mobile phone in their cars, and we all cover each other's backs...

                              Cheers!!!

We will let him keep thinking that

But i agree golfer sounds like the wise course of action.
