Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

          Hey all,

Alex (Maca) and I went to Chris' workplace today and dropped off some flowers and spoke to a florist about flowers and an arrangement for the memorial service. It's a really tragic loss and I can't begin to imagine how devastated I would feel, but I think that at this sad time that if we all showed our support for Chris that his family would really appreciate it.

We chose an arrangement that we think is really nice, and got a large VW badge (a repro chrome aircooled one) which will be included in the arrangement.

We will also be getting a card which will list all the members from VWW who wish to send their condolences; so we'll need everyone's names to include on the card (it might be nice to use our actual names rather than just screen names).

We were thinking that if everyone who is coming on Saturday or who wants to contribute would be able to chip in some money towards the arrangement then it might work out pretty well. Depending on numbers it might work out to be around the $20-each mark. We need to get back to the florist with the amount for the arrangement so they can work out how big to make it.

I will make a duplicate post in the other thread about all of this too.

If everyone who wishes to send condolences can please PM Maca or I with your name then that would be greatly appreciated.

          -Matt

How much are the different sized arrangements? I reckon just a normal sized one, don't have to go biggest, keep costs manageable. With the badge and card on top of the flower cost, how much are we talking total?

I think it would be around $170 and $40 for the badge. The final cost will be determined by money available though. I'm not certain how much the card will be though.

We decided that it'd probably be good to get something that was really nice (arrangment wise) and something not too small; something that his family can take home. He was so passionate about VWs; they were an important part of his life, of who he was and I'm sure it'd be good if we showed our respects with something nice.

I'm not sure yet how much it'll all cost, we're hoping to get a ballpark figure though to let the florist know by tomorrow evening if possible.

I'll be sure to keep everyone updated with it all.

              Matt.

I think we can let everyone know the details once we've got a final amount organised. Thanks for showing support though. I'll keep everyone updated.

Money on the day will be the easiest option probably. I think we'll write the card before the service on Saturday so we get the best chance to include everyone on it.

If everyone who would like to transfer money for the flowers can PM Alex (Maca) that'd be good, maybe list how much you're willing to chip in too so we can get back to the florists ASAP.

I'll be there on Sat and I'll give required money for the arrangement on the day, so add me (Rhys) on the card. PM me your mob number Alex so I can give you a buzz on the day, maybe it would be good if the dubbers rocked up together.

My mate who is a VW mechanic and is tight knit with GC VW has also heard that Chris' father is requesting a VW flag be laid over his coffin. Hopefully this can happen and we'll see it on the day, it would be a nice touch for him to truely show his passion for dubs.

What is appropriate attire for the day? I've only ever been to my own family's and best mates funerals in which I wore a suit. Smart casual be acceptable?

                            Cheers boys,

I was also wondering this. Was going to hit the beach firs, but thongs and singlets wouldn't really work. Black pants, collared shirt, jeans?? I'm easy either way...

PM sent Rhys, and I'd say that smart casual would be appropriate? I'm coming from work so I'll have trousers/black button up shirt on.

There's also talks of meeting at Southport VW and proceeding to the funeral home in convoy style. Will post details as I learn them.
