I had also thought that there was some criteria other than cleanliness - such as orignality, mods etc (why are there categories for modded cars if they're not judged on the basis of those mods?). Though cleanliness obviously matters.

So last year when my car was pretty much spotless and but the winner in the category was a MK1 GTI (no tyre treatment, I might add) I thought the rareness of that car added points. That and some people said to me that my car had a good chance as it was so original.

Anyway, it don't matter. Just a thought. Trophies aren't important.

PS I wonder how many MK6s will be there??

Which to me is a bit iffy as the ones who actually use their cars will never get them as clean as people who dont.Dave

Our Polo is used every day...it still won last year with a second the year before.

Cory took advantage of our carport today to apply polishes & waxes, as his high roof ex NSW Ambulance will not ever fit under his carport. These waxes/Polishes should not be applied in direct sunlight. Cory has been off work for 3 months due to an operation, so his T4 has not been touched in that time.

I started on our Golf because I have two cars to enter (purely to support the watercooled scene), the Golf V & the 2003 Polo. I can't clean two cars in one day. I don't care if I don't win anything....but I'm there to support.

Next Saturday morning we pick up our new camper trailer (in the Golf) so that will need a touch up. The Polo will have a lot more to be done.

Saturday night I will be out to a work function so nothing will be done....that explains the early start for the both of us.

VW Watercooled car of the Day will be taken from the two highest placed VWs in each class (still to be confirmed, but that's what I'll be pushing). For the ultimate winner, I image that judging may also include some engineering, some portion of originallity, some of personal detail etc. so I think we'll have it mostly covered. This can be accomodated under the "Presentation" heading.

We will never please everyone, and never have......but give it a go, enjoy the day, make new friends, and it will be a worthwhile experience. And you'll also have a highly detailed car at the end of the day that others will admire. Remember, you'll be up against VWs of around the same year/model, so if you put in the hard yards, you may be rewarded.

All I do is wash and vacuum my Karmann but its not exactly restored or original but I clean because its the right thing to do when your putting a vehicle on display.

ps have thought about bringing the Mk5 but Maris is the Clean Master I'll let an R32 or GTI go against him

There are no standard/moddified catagories for watercooled, because as yet, there are not enough of both for each class.

Greasy, I to have seen cars without tyre dressing do very well at shows, pretty ordinary. However, the rest of the car may have been good enough to get it over the line. It should have lost at least 4 points out of the possible 10 (a point for each wheel). The rest of the car may have got it over the line.

The reason I posted the judging criteria was because a member from this forum asked me why he didn't do any good at the show last year. I had to say I was suprised myself. I said I'd have a look at his car & see if I could find out why. Needless to say I was able to show him why. I reasoned that he was unaware of the criteria, which did put him at a disadvantage. But, it's fair to say that if you go to any car show, the judging criteria will be similar.

I remember one year I was asked to rejudge to beetles that were locked together on points. I looked at the both & htought "why am I having to rejudge, the winner was obvious......untill & checked the interior & engine bay. So initial looks can be deceiving.

Yes the engine bay probably let me down - but I don't think the hood was up during judging. Will be the same story this year. Too much muck to clean off with a can of degreaser and a watering can (just had a go and then had to dry out the dizzy and the starter solenoid ).

There are categories for modified aircooled though isn't there?

And doing the tyres only takes 2 mins with a can of tyre foam. The owner of the GTI even told me that the judges said he should haved cleaned his tyres.

Anyway, there's plenty of injustices in the world and this really isn't one of them.

I got some heat from one copetitor for a couple of years in a row, so I asked him to do some judging. He came with me and said later that he didn't realize so much went into it...now his daughter may have a go...
