  • NSW Monthly Meets - What does everyone think??

I was having a chat with Pierre about the idea of monthly meets as the other states seem to have these working quite well. While it seems like a great idea in essence, I feel the sydney crew may not have the dedication or enthusiasm to make this work. (prove me wrong otherwise )

There would probably be a select few that would make an appearance every month but it seems the syd folk are more talk and no action hahaha

So i pose this question to you all and if there is enough interest perhaps we could start a monthly meet. To make this work it'd have to be on the same date (1st/2nd week of every month e.g Monday night) at the same time and same place.

It might take a while to get started but it'd be a great way to get some new members to come along and get involved and hopefully as a result will increase numbers to other events such as GTG's and cruises.

So lets discuss this matter and see where it takes us. Im all for monthly meets IF there is enough interest... Times, dates, places, voice your interest...

I wouldnt mind, i reckon if we get a dozen or so thatd keep everyone interested and returning each time. If its only a few ppl and the same ppl showing up i would prob reconsider.

Thats my main issue - VW Nats was a prime example. There were more out of state people making an effort then there were Sydney people. With it being held in NSW youd expect it to be the other way around...

Sounds good. Hard part is finding the best time to cater for as many of us as possible. If it's gonna be at the same place, it'll have to be something like a bar/pub with a decent carpark! The past few GTGs we've been going back to North Strathfield a lot...

The West Ryde hotel near me is great for food you can get a steak to cook on the bbq yourself, and you get chips and veggies etc with it, all for $10! And although there isn't a carpark OUTSIDE the joint there is one at the woolies which is only 100m away

I think it's fairly central for those that come from west, north and east but I don't know about south cos I'm never down there the place itself is pretty chilled, but its really busy on thursday, friday, saturday nights. I'd suggest a tuesday or sunday night.

Bar, pub, rsl - anything along those lines would be good... It has to be somewhere central to cater for everyone too. As for a good location (parra-strathfield-burwood) easy to get to for most ppl 1/2hr drive for most max..

Yes its going to be hard to find a best time but i reckon early week is best as towards the end of the week it seems to get busier gettting ready for the weekend and we usually have our bigger meets fridays, saturdays etc.

Its just a matter of choosing a day and sticking to it. If you wana make an appearance you will make time for it..

Great idea Lora, couldn't agree more with what you said, pretty sad for the NSW people.

North Strathfield is pretty good were we have been the last few times and there are a few bars there. I would want to park my car next to the place I'm not going to park it 100m away from the joint!

I think even burwood would be a good idea and then we can chat and do ****, not meet once every 3 months and go for a cruise were we spend half the time driving, which we can still do cause I love the drive, I think a pub would be awesome too!

Can't believe Dom said he can't be bothered what a absolute anus!

sorry for jumping in on your thread but i do agree monthly meets are great.
The melbourne meet runs pretty smoothly now (ofcourse i would say that lol)

but here are my pointers that I have learned over the year running meets back in the uk...

                          When to hold the Meeting?
weekend meets suck....no one likes to give up there weekend and can clash with show meetings.

Mid week works well, it breaks the week up.
Mondays can be a pain some times as if you meet falls on a bank holiday people tend to be away for long weekends

                          Where to hold a Meet?
in a Pub, much have good parking and the landlord agrees to have you and your cars there every month.
The meeting point must be easy to find.

what to do at the Meet?
what ever the hell you like lol but mainly to arrange trips etc.

Also try to get a few people to run the whole meeting, these people must be able to make almost every meeting, greet all the newbies and organise stuff. (we have 4 hosts in melbourne)

Feel free to bang any questions my way

thanks velly they're some good points for us to all consider. I just think it'd be a good way to build the camaraderie amongst the syd members as what you guys have down in melbourne is awesome..

Well so far i think tuesday or wednesday would be a good idea.. Anyone know of any good pubs in burwood - strathfield area.. Guys who live out that way???

Agree a location more central and acessable by more than one motorway.

A few of us southerons would come if its near the M5. Someone needs to suss out a pub and then have a chat with management there.

Anyone know a good pub in that area? with parking?
