Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • TAS WTB: Mk3 VR6 OBD1 ECU

Have attempted to solder a performance chip in, and now won't start. Even with the factory when i put it back in.

It feels to me like the immobiliser is cutting the engine.

    Any ideas?

    James

There seems to be a ECU here if it is the right one.

If it's the same ECU it can't be the immobiliser mate.

You should buy a big magnifying glass and examine all your soldering. Even go to the trouble of continuity checks of each joint to the next point on the board if you can.

What method did you use for removing the chip? Hot air is the only sensible way to do it, you get all the legs at once.

                Gav,

I took it to a computer tech. I will take it back in and get them to look it over again. Cheers
