  • QLD WTB Want to borrow - 308mm front brake disc off T5

As the title says, I'm looking to borrow (or buy 2nd hand cheap) as single 308mm T5 front brake disc.

I want to test fit to the Amarok (which has a 303mm disc) to see if it will:

#1 fit (should, both same bore and both 5x120)
#2 work with the Amarok calipers.

Also, if you have a spare T5 caliper would be great too.

Essentially the rational is that there are many T5 disc options but very few Amarok options.

    PM please

    Thanks

      Thanks Jimmy.

BTW I have about 4 sets of old discs I can donate to your scale load. Can drop off sometime next week if you want.

Curious at to why you want to see if it will fit? Being only 5mm larger overall it's not like it will improve surface area/performance to justify the cost.

Given that the Amarok isn't sold in the USA it is likely to allow a wider selection of brake discs when the time comes to purchase a replacement instead of a performance upgrade.

Aftermarket Amarok discs are pretty much non-existent at the moment (as in cross drilled and/or slotted and any other combination you can think of )

There is a host of aftermarket options for the 308mm T5 discs so hoping that could be a straight fit.

In addition if the caliper fitments are identical or closely similar it may be that the 333mm T5 discs could fit as well (with the calipers or carriers being replaced as well) which will be a worthwhile performance upgrade.

Nobody has looked into it (that I could find anyway) before so I intend to confirm or deny the possibility of an upgrade using VW OEM parts.

BTW 308mm T5 discs fitted to earlier T5s and current single TDI T5GPs. BiTDI and TSI T5GPs use the 333mm discs and an upgrade from 308 to 333 is bolt off bolt on apparently.

Makes you wonder why VW didn't just utilize the good old parts bin when designing the Amarok and use the 308mm or 333mm disks to begin with? Perhaps the small wheels on the lower spec models restrict the rotor size?

Im actually surprised how small the brakes are on so many utes (Hilux/Navara etc). Considering they are heavy vehicles to begin with, and made to haul a tonne or more around, im surprised at the teeny weeny brakes so many have.

Naturally, if the 333mm disk fit without any trouble then they would offer a performance increase due to the larger surface area, good luck finding the necessary parts you need.
