      Ah, nice. For some reason I thought the fakra connector was the connection to the canbus. Have googled a little now and ordered. Thanks for the help and confirmation.

        And for the CAN-Bus question... not sure. All I know is in my MK6 the -s one did not work. Probably for Skoda vs VW?? dunno
        Hmm crap, every time I would launch the Gps I have static. Then when the GPS is running random static, even when I hit the GPS button there iis static in the system. Hmm

          Just remember that how you pack the excess cables away can induce noise. The best way is to wrap the excess cable in a figure of 8 to prevent IT acting as an antenna itself. Once you have done this, use cable ties to keep it that way.

          Of course, everyone knew I meant ties

          • I've got to say I don't like these reports of hardware issues. I might wait for the full production units. Ummm since I'm on the list for the next batch does anyone else in Australia want my stock instead? I might have one or two coming.

              • Right. Reverse camera installed. Went smother than expected, didn't have to pull half the interior out, was able to snake the cable around the trim piece.

                Wiring was as followed, for the license plate type camera:

                Unit Side:
                Yellow RCA -> Yellow RCA
                BBattery -> Red wire on Yellow RCA cable
                No other wires used.

                Camera Side:
                Yellow RCA -> Yellow RCA
                Red 3.5mm -> Red wire -> Red wire on Yellow RCA
                No other wires used.

                Another bug found as well:

                On iPod playback, using 30pin->Lightning cable, my iPhone doesn't charge. When playing back audio using another source (BT/SD/Radio), iPhone is charged as normal. For some reason it stops charging when you play audio through it. This is using both the 30pin->Lightning adapter and the 0.2m cable. Not sure why. Pretty ****ing annoying actually, considering i've got a big road trip coming up and a charged device is essential.

                Edit: This bug is also present with an iPod connected straight to the 30pin connection. Sigh.

                Ah sorry about that, I forgot that you have to set permissions for editing. I've set it for everyone to edit now.

                  Thanks for that mate! Should be useful tomorrow when I fit mine as it just showed up!

                  Quick question - where did you guys put the GPS antenna? Will it get adequate reception if I fit it below the surface of the dash or am I better off fitting it on top somewhere?

                    I pulled out the top AC vents (just 2 bolts, careful you don't let them fall though), and mounted the GPS antenna where there's a hump between the top dash surface and the AC vents. It's pretty snug, so I have no no doubt it'll stay there, and reception is great.

                      I have a MK5 so mines a little different but if its ok to put it under the dash I'm sure I'll find somewhere appropriate while I have it all apart. Thanks again!

                        Yea, i've done installs in 3 other cars and as long as you find a good enough place that's secure and fairly decent line of sight it should be fine.

                          With my actual chinese unit I have background noise. Which cables do you wrap like an 8? All of them together?

                                Hmm okay, however this static is coming whether the GPS software launches or not, as I didn't get the software with the radio I've been trying out different versions, some launch some don't, even of they don't launch the initial loading of the software has static, when it does launch there is random static. Ill relocate my GPS antenna once I get the accessory cables that are missing and see if that helps. As right now the antenna wire runs along side with my sub RCA cable, I can't see that causing the random static, if it was constant static yes. Random no, that seems more hardware then wire feedback
