  • Unit works well. My iPod function works great. Songs from pandora show up accurate, GPS works good. But yea didn't come with radio or USB cable. The password for my Bluetooth was 0000 not 1234 like in the instructions. But that works now.

    • these missing cables should be shipped out no matter what, whether the car has them or not as not all cars come equipped with the same features. I need these cables in order to use this nearly 800 dollar. if they can't provide them then this unit will be returned with a 30 dollar invoice for the import charge I had on it..

Wow! For me that's great news! I thought my OEM aux and USB connections wouldn't be used again! I had the iPod connector also, but the iPod connector for the unit has to be his own, right?

Guys, you wanted the early release unit, don't worry as AS will get updates to solve all these issues. I'm sure almost all of them are software related. I would be worried if in January with the official release your units are still faulty...

        • Are they going to ship is the rest of the connectors?
720 bucks is a little steep for not getting the whole package here

          • Well I want to send mine back to audiosource. Nothing but problems. I called dhs and they said $225 to ship it there...I am so mad I want to rip it out...

Interesting. My car has Aux but not USB, may have to look into retrofitting USB into the wiring harness then.

No worries Sandy, will be looking for it on Monday I guess. Have a good holiday

              ^

Remember that we're getting early versions with essentially pre-release software. We knew there were going to be some bugs.

Edit: We should get a public document going with bugs we've found. Should make it easier to report them to Audiosources.

I agree, would be nice to have the cables in the box for those who don't have it. Oversight by AS.

Surely there is a better/cheaper way? I shipped an Eonon unit back to HK via Auspost for $20 and it only took 10 days (which, for international Auspost, was super quick).

              • Ok, I have mine installed and am watching this thread. I do not have any of the issues except for obvious software/firmware issues that will be updated in the future. Here are a list of the issues I see people having and from what I can tell, solutions:

                1) Bluetooth not working - for those that have Bluetooth module already installed in their VW, it will be best to disconnect that entirely by moving the passenger seat back and locating the module sitting in a Styrofoam holder. Just disconnect the wire. This will automatically remove the "phone" menu from the MFD and will prevent any conflicts from your phone if you set this up before. The name of the Bluetooth module is the EXACT same as the DNS unit (VWPHONE) so can get your phone confused even if you delete the pairing on your original OEM Bluetooth. Once you do that, search for Bluetooth devices on your phone and you should find VWPHONE. Connect with 0000 as password. There is no way of knowing if your phone connected on the DNS itself (which sucks but meh), is to hit the BT button and try to make a call. You can also download your phone book by clicking the "down arrow" top right. If this is not working, then shut down your phone and restart it. It will work. Also make sure you go into Menu on DNS, PHONE and be sure autoconnection is enabled. So far this has always connected and has been exceptionally clear and good Bluetooth unit contrary to what Sandy had said (the speaker is great and people can hear me fine)
                2) Backup camera - for those that have the emblem version that replaces the rear latch, you have to wire it as follows: Run the RCA video, blue/red wires from the camera up to the front of the car. Connect the blue (reverse trigger) to the Battery + wire on the DNS connector NOT the reverse wire (I found this out the hard way....after some multimeter testing). Second, connect the red wire (that comes with in line fuse) to an always "on" battery connection in your car. I found an empty fuse slot on driver side (easy to access) and added an "add a fuse" and wired it that way. This is a MUST. The latch/camera needs power ALL THE TIME for the latch to work. Originally, Sandy and I though the old latch connector would power it but this is not the case. If you look on the internet, a lot of forums cover this and the same problem for these "aftermarket" emblem cameras is that constant power must be fed by that red wire. Once you confirm that you are connected EXACTLY that way, and it still does not work 100% of the time (mine does) then let me know.
                3) included connectors/wires - I am in the same boat and did not get the USB out connector (should go on that yellow round connector thing on back of DNS). Sandy has addressed this and Audio Sources should get us those wires. I believe most our cars have a 3.5mm aux input and/or ipod but mine does not have USB. I have not tried the 3.5mm input to see if it works with Aux-In but will update today. Bottom line, be patient, this will be fixed
4)I do not use USB or SD for music so can't comment on that - I always enjoy good old FM or when android mirroring comes, Tuned In radio!
                5) Sandy mentioned there is a secret menu that lets you change some settings. Go to the Aux-In by hitting the SD button (on DNS810) until it switches to that or Media button on DNS610. Either way, get to the Aux-In screen (will be all grey and say Aux-In), hold down on screen left side in the middle for 5 seconds. This will bring up 3 menus...Model, Logo and something else. Click the Logo and you can change to VW. Click Startup or the other button and you can select a VW one again. That should fix all bootup splash screens. Now, hit the top menu button (Model select). Don't touch the first 3....I think they are Bluetooth, ASP and something else. you can turn OPS on or off on rear camera, select the right Can-bus (CAN-V for my GTI MK6), make your volume "current" when in reverse camera, and some other options. Restart your unit and the changes should take effect.

As most people have said....be patient, I know it's been WAAAAAY too long to wait for this but we are still in pre production stage and firmware updates will come.

                  • missing cables or the mention of the unit only using the OEM cables wasn't ever brought up by AS till now, so that's not really a fault of the early release.

                    • Honestly loving the unit so far. Do I want the bugs to be fixed? Sure I do. But I along with those above me understand that this is a pre-release unit that we specifically signed up to receive, bugs and all. Anyways.

Has anyone else been able to replicate my issue with music from the SD card? The song will *SOMETIMES* not go to the next song unless I got back to the SD card interface. I have not been able to determine in what situations it works, and which it does not. Going to spend this weekend doing as much testing as I can.

I changed the setting in the Aux-in hidden menu to keep current volume while backing up. When I put the car in reverse, the song stops if playing from SD card. Going to put the FM radio on and see what happens when I backup.

                      • I have neither an aux nor a usb port in my car so I will be needing some sort of solution either way here. Does anyone know a link to where I can get a factory one for my MK5 GTi or at least where I can get a part number for it? Where does it mount? Anyone with one got a pic by any chance?

Fingers crossed ours get out today so I have something to play with next week!

                        • AS Should be supplying these cables, as I myself don't have these cables either, if I knew they weren't going to be included I wouldnt of gotten the radio, as the last thing I want to do is to go to and spend more money to make this radio function in my car.

So the DNS doesn't have an auxiliary input or USB input unless your car already have those sockets/connections?

How about bluetooth streaming, can it do that? If so what's the audio quality like?

                              • Can everyone who has a unit post their BSP, MCU and MPU etc by clicking menu then system info? This way we can see if it's a firmware problem.
