OK, I relented and ordered a set

Anyone up for a group install if I buy these for my R32 in Sydney?

Yes... Have VCDS will travel.
(assuming of course I don't just get them and go nuts and install the the second they arrive)

Just trying to work out what the group buy price is now for 4 doors. Anyone know? From what I can gather it still says $138....
How hard is it to get the door trims off on a MK5?

You will pay full price + postage, then the difference is going to be refunded at the end of the group buy. Or that is my understanding of it.

Current price for 4 doors is $109.98, and if they get another 3 orders that would go down to 99.98. (i'm assuming they will probably hit that target if you add yourself and Aaron its only 1 more to go)

So you'd pay the full price and expect either $28.01 or $38.01 to be refunded at the end of the month.

Ok has anyone seen that these are for sale on eBay? $29 plus postage they are not led but you can just buy the new bulbs. That's for the 4 doors.

Fair word of warning I had received and installed these lights, though I did have an issue.

The wires they gave had larger crimps than the socket they installed into. I had a feeling some might fit in some cars if they had different sockets, but in my case (scirocco) they did not. I find it a little strange because in the installation video they had the same socket as mine that required smaller crimps, but they did kind of pass on the details when they got to that bit. "insert this in with pin 18, this in 19.... when they are in place do this".

Anyway... if you are installing them into a socket that looks like this.... RNSE Housing (Rear) - 1J0972977G - EuropaParts.com and they looks like they won't fit... its because they won't. I am not a patient man, and i got hacking the socket apart to make it fit. It did fit, but now i know its a complete mess in there, and only 1 pin actually fit so i soldered the earth into another earth etc., just a big butchering of the cables.

So i've looked into a solution. I found these crimps

Buy Crimp Receptacles Connector,crimp terminal,Contact,Receptacle,Tin,13.6mm TE Connectivity 963715-1 online from RS for next day delivery.... these are the correct crimps for the wires.. which I got 100 of delivered for $11 (ordered last night, received this morning)... and although I haven't had the chance to test, i'm positive they are the correct size for that socket. I have to go an get a couple of new sockets, and will transfer the old pins to the new sockets (which you won't need to do if you don't try and put a square peg into a much smaller square hole.... my the plan is to snip the old ;arge crimps off the wire they supplie, put these new crimps on, and install into the socket. I'm confident that will work, the only issue is crimping the wire without the correct tools, but I think some small soldering and pliers will do the trick.

I'm happy to post off some of crimps if anyone has orderred them, obviously 100 is way more than I need, even if i need to recrimp my entire socket, or you can order your own. I will update with results, although this might be on monday depending if vw had those sockets in spare parts when I go today. (unlikely)

Plan B is to order a patch wire with the cables already crimped onto the smaller crimps, and just snip the ends off and solder them directly onto the supplied wires. But from what I could tell, crimping yourself is a lot cheaper, and faster... everything else is from the US, though VW might have a patch wire from spare parts.

Lights look fantastic by the way.. very happy.

Edit: New connector on order, so will update on monday.

The ones I fitted from Boldsport had different connectors for the front and back doors. If you get them right way around they fit in without any modification to the connectors.

Maybe they put the wrong wires in mine by mistake then. It should be fairly obvious if they don't fit. Only ordered 2 doors.

Yes I suspect you got sent the wrong wires as the connector block for the front and back doors are different (and require different terminals to fit).

First door I did I was scratching my head until I realised that there were 2 different sets of connector wires with slightly different crimp terminals on them. Get them the wrong way around and it's like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole - just isn't going to work (as you no doubt found out).
