The climatronic diagnostics don't seem to be reliable.

I think it was about 80-90 degrees. edit: More like 90+, up to 99.

Do you have a VCDS cable? Have a look at group 29.

Was there a link to instructions somewhere? (will search later but if somebody has something handy? thx)

Instructions here for a Skoda but all you really need is instructions for taking the radio out. Its pretty simple, just need some Torx tools.
