After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • NSW Trying to sell - 1986 SA imported Mk2 GTI

Just want to see if anyone will appreciate my Mk2, as I want to move on to something else after enjoy this car for 3.5 years.

This car is nothing out of ordinary, 1986 8V k-jetronic GTI, South Africa car, EV engine code.
It has a few items which worth some money though :

Borbet A 15x7, with almost brand new Toyo 195/50 tyres done about 3K
Weitec Hicon GT coilover - travel about 20K since new
New clutch done in 2010 by Camden GTI

Other things worth to mention (good and bad)
Retrofit power steering, new hydraulic lifter done by Camden GTI
Custom made leather seat modified from a Subaru car, done by Camden GTI
    New rear brake rotor
    Single wiper conversion
Big bumper conversion - don't criticise this if you don't like big
All old car oil leak problem (rear main seal, sump gasket, etc) were fixed,
    Matching licence plate - GTI86M
Air cond exists but not working. I don't bother to fix it like Ryan did
    Heater is bypassed.

In last 3.5 years, I've spent over $10K on this car, big items as listed above + countless bits and pieces. I have a spreadsheet to log all the expense.

Overall the body and interior is in great condition, uncracked dashboard, original parcel shelf without speaker hole. No significant dent or scratch.
I don't deny this car have had accident in the last 28 years, it doesn't appear to have any rust though.

K-jetronic was tuned by an expert, it is in good working condition, cold start, warn start, hot start, start every time.

Engine is unknown mileage, over 300K I suppose, because the odometer has stopped after that, I have replaced the cluster with German metric version.
It is still running fine, being a South Africa car with big valve head, it runs a lot better than Australia release Mk2.
2.0 bottom end conversion has always been in my plan, however whenever I drive it I just don't feel I need to do it. Depend on your expectation, it is a good base to turn it into a hot hatch.

    $4500 to test the water.
can negotiate a lower ball but not low low ball if you byo wheel, I don't mind keep the Borbet.
can consider to swap for either a BMW E30 or VR6 or something interesting.

Bump to EOI again, although I'm still not keen to sell.

Fresh from oven - 12 months rego just done TODAY. Asking price is adjusted accordingly.

A few update since my initial EOI ->

All new ignition component - spark plug, lead, distributor cap and rotor.
          Added 3 gauge setup.
Brand new water pump + thermostat + coolant.
This is not a particularly fast car, I have just kept maintain it as a reliable daily and fun car.
If you want a fast car, get a Mk7 golf R

Paul, I know I know. That's why low baller can ignore this as I won't give it away.
but being a hobby car, although I use it as 60% daily, often you want something else after a long while.

Still enjoy it almost every day I'm no rush to sell it.

Asked the missus if she would sell her getz to buy a Mk2 GTi, but got old she would, but she doesn't like the shape of the Mk2. If it was a running Mk1 she would do it.

I remember that the MK2 Golfs and Jettas built in South Africa were excellent, and the plant in Uitenhague won many awards building them.
