I recently acquired a hailed-on 2004 GTI. There is full service history up to 125k's (well logbook stamps of work, no invoices)

The issue I am having is that in the logbook the servicing is a bit vague

There is nothing under "recommended repair"...

My car is due for a 105K service, and when I rang up to book at the VW dealer, they quoted around $1800 for the service, timing belt and water pump.

Now my car is out of warranty, so I'm hesitant to pay that much for this service.
