I have a tuned mk5 GTI with a k04 and supporting mods (s3 injectors, big HPFP etc). It’s been dead reliable until now. I took it to the track the other weekend and ever since it’s been running about 10 degrees C hotter than normal — between 98-102 degrees in normal driving.

Catalyst R36
I have a feeling my catalyst are failing or blocked on my R36, as previous issues with misfire, performance and exhaust note change.
At what temperatures are normal for cats on both banks? Done a idle test via VCDS , outside temp were 2 degrees. Output test temp were around 765 degrees....Last edited by bigdaddy786; 10-12-2022, 03:17 AM.

EA211 Engine knock and pulling too much timing.
Hi there,
I’m having an issue and quite lost right now. Over the last few weeks, I started to notice that I had some knock between 1000-2000rpm. I thought that could be caused by worn spark plugs and I replaced them (gapped to .7 and torqued at 22nm as per VW manual) and new APR coil...Last edited by Gutoneto; 28-07-2022, 09:15 PM.

Oil temp consistently 110 degrees, long cool downs - Golf R
My MY13 golf R has been showing an oil temp (on the electronic dash within the menu), of about 109-111 degrees.
And also recently, the water temp gauge on the dash has moved from its usual 90, to around 110, 105, etc, and is not going back down to 90.
I had the timing belt and...

1.8T 20V non VVT head to VVT conversion
So I'm going with large port AGU head for my Polo's 1.8T build. Given that its large port and also that I wont be using a huge sized turbo, I'm pretty keen to convert this head over to VVT operation. The aim of this is not just for the VW cold starts but to use intake advance throughout the rev range...

coolant temps help/advice
Its been pretty cold driving home at night in Sydney lately eg 5-8 degree nights, and I've noticed that if I get the heater on as soon as hot air will come out, that the cluster engine temp gauge wont make it to 90 degrees. It'll park itself on 70.If I turn the heater off again the temp will get up...

Hey all!
My 2012 VRS has developed an issue that has perplexed me and several mechanics.
Your help or ideas would be greatly appreciated please!
At any temp below the magic halfway 90 degrees, the engine stutters and coughs at the rev range of 1100-1400 rpm......

What's wrong with my heater/aircon?
Hi everyone. Hoping your collective wisdom might help. I have a Mk5 R32, she is my baby, her name is Thumper.
The heater is not working and the aircon works fine only if I set it between 16.5 degrees up to about 21 degrees.
I am worried as the bits and pieces I've read...

timing pull
Just a question for the guys that have delved into lemmiwinks, unisettings and nefmoto etc. A lot of what I read has people talking about 'acceptable' amounts of timing pull with figures anywhere from less than 6 degrees being 'ok'. Just hoping for your take on that because to my mind isn't any...

Castor on a MK4
I had an alignment done yesterday as I had replaced the left ball joint and driving at 100+ felt odd on a left turn.
The shop said the castor variance is out of spec and they could do nothing about it, go get aftermarket kit etc.
Toe on rear is out also, but cannot be fixed either....
