Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Thats a really good point phaeton..forgot about those new emissions targets...the V6 boys wont be happy!

        i don't know how you couldn't be happy.

        no its not a v6 but think of the possibilities being a turbo engine and 4-MOTION!! -imagining exhaust note-

        of course you can go and spend an arm, a leg and your first born on a twin turbo kit for the R32 to change to the rotation of the earth.....but for a fraction of the cost of that (with maybe a little help from APR and other tuning co.'s ) you could get this thing absolutely hauling A$$.

        bring it on....this will be my VW dream car.

          The recently unveiled VW Golf / Rabbit MkVI will form the basis for the next GTI as well, but we already knew that. What is news is that the GTI car will get a version of the revised 2.0-liter TFSI engine, good for 211 horsepower andd 258lb-ft of torque, which represents improvements of 11hp and 51lb-ft. The latest iteration of the evergreen hot hatch is likely to arrive in European showrooms by the spring of next year, with a U.S. release expected near that time as well.
          A concept version of the car could make a car show debut by October, however, says Autocar. To complement the added power offered up by the new engine, VW will improve the car’s steering feel and accuracy and handling performance.
          On the outside, the car will get Audi-like LED daytime running lights, and new front and rear fascias along with unique head and taillights to differentiate it from lesser Golfs / Rabbits. The wheels will also grow an inch in diameter, with the base GTI rolling on 18-inchers and 19s offered as options.
          Under the hood, the new global EA888 engine will sport changes that will make servicing faster and therefore less expensive for owners, thanks to easier access to the turbo and oil cooler. The power boost is largely owed to a variable valve lift system developed by Audi.
          The all-wheel drive R32 model will be discontinued, and replaced by an AWD GTI-R with the same turbo motor from the Audi TT-S, making 265 horsepower.

                The biggest news on the engine front is that VW has ditched an automatic gearbox from the Golf’s transmission options. Buyers will have a choice of either six-speed manual or six-speed/seven-speed DSG (dual clutch) system.

                VW says the new Golf will feature a more advanced stability control system, as well as offering seven airbags as standard – including a new knee airbag.

                The 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol is also axed, with the Golf instead offering a range of downsized, 1.4-litre units available with different power outputs – 59kW, 75kW, 90kW, 118kW.

                2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesels range from 81kW to 125kW, with the entry-level oil-burner boasting a fuel consumption figure of just 4.5L/100km.

                The sixth Golf, which arrives 34 years and 26 million sales after the original debuted back in 1974, will also feature Adaptive Chassis Control – borrowed from the more expensive Passat CC coupe.

                ACC allows the driver to switch between Normal, Comfort and Sport settings, each with a different set-up for the suspension, steering and accelerator response.

                      Odd, that "PASSENGER AIRBAG ... " has been manipulated, and quite badly. I wonder what it actually says. Might be an acronym for a new system...

                        the "off" illuminates when they airbag is turned off i believe.

                          Hmnn good point thats probably what it is... still looks offset and out of place on the image though ...

                              I asked at VW the other day and was told we'll be getting the MK6 early next year maybe jan or feb because right know he can't order any more Mk5s and can only sell what he has on the floor. Also the Scirocco will follow towards the mid to the end of 09.

                              Hope he's right
