I hear what you are saying Maris, it's hardly a radical revamp is it? An evolution of the existing model unless there are radical changes under the skin.

          In todays Heraldsun Cars Guide...............
          http://carsguide.news.com.au/site/mo...tos_vw_golf_6/

Smoother styling but no Porsche input.
The foundations for the next generation of Volkswagens has just been laid in Europe.

The car called Golf 6 is public today in pictures which show a compact hatch which is just as you would expect - as well as the building block for a new range of updated models which already share their mechanical package with the current Golf.

There is no sign of a Porsche input in the car, even though the sports car maker now owns its big brother, but the new look of the Golf will be reflected in everything from the next Jetta and Golf to cars with Skoda and Seat badges.

Volkswagen is making big claims for Golf 6, saying it is the “safest, most technically advanced and most dynamic iteration yet”.

It is also promising new benchmarks in quality, style, safety and emissions for a car which has been its best seller since the 1970s.

“This sixth generation of Golf cars will completely redefine the quality and comfort level of its class over broad categories, offering more customer value than ever before,” says Martin Winterkorn, chairman of the Volkswagen.

The sixth-generation Golf is expected in Australia towards the end of next year following a full-scale preview at the Paris Motor Show in October and European sales before the end of 2008.

Early details point to smoother, evolutionary styling for both the three and five-door Golf hatches. The cabin is more refined and the quality of materials is improved.

“It is more accentuated than its predecessor with precisely defined lines and edges and with finely proportioned flared surfaces and recesses,” says VW design chief, Walter de Silva.

Safety is handled by seven airbags, Golf Six will come with new or updated petrol and diesel engines, and the list of standard and optional equipment includes everything from Adaptive Chassis Control to an Automatic Distance Control which promises automatic braking if it detects an obstacle in front of the car.

I like the looks of it.
Also it looks as though they might be doing a way with the "corporate nose" look?

I like it a lot and would consider it a serious contender for when the Mk 4 no longer becomes a road car.

Wow, first impressions aren't as good as second impressions on this one. I really like it, even though it's very similar to the VW range already mentioned I think it will suit its GOLF badge nicely when it becomes common on the road. I love that picture of the illuminated taillights; i reckon their attention to detail is more refined now and it's payed off.

And that reversing camera is just ultra cool

Updated 2.0 TFSI will be in the new GTI which will not be launched with the rest of the range. May be 9-12-18 months later .....

From what I've read the 2.0FSI is gone, replaced by various output models of the 1.4 TSI ... up to 118kw apparently.

I think I'll go place my order fot a new GTI now ...... to avoid the waiting list when it does get released ....

very impressive! i like the look of the whole car, the body lines and proportions are great. i am trying to picture a 'possible' GTI get up and i have to say it is looking damn hot. i just have that feeling that VW will make an absolute cracker of a GTI this time around, in terms of agressive styling and that 200kW donk .

its way too early to even think of what the R32 will be. maybe due to the 200kW GTI, the R32 could be bored out to a 3.4L...... .:R34 anyone?

If they do make something like an R34, people will need to recognise it quickly...I'll get very annoyed at people who think I'm talking about a skyline (bro) !!

I'd love to see a 6th gen R...that would be an amazing car

According to Autocar GTI concept will be shown in October possibly at Essen or Paris Motor Shows.

V6 is dropped from range next (due to EU emission targets), R will be a highly tuned GTI engine with 4Motion
