Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

And... it doesn't have a rear end that looks like ass. I think they've done very well with the styling over the MKV. It's on my list of possibilities for the next car.

200 KILLER WASPS!! thats definitely something to look forward too.

this MKVI will be something worth seeing, will have to invest in this months wheels mag. IMO VW have always bunged the rear ends of their hatches, whilst have recently mastered the look of the front ends (take for example the MKV Golf GTI, 9N3 Polo GTI, and new Scirocco - all very aggressive yet stylish looking front ends).

I really dig on the current Mk V, it took me a while but I love it now. This Mk VI on first impression doesnt do jack for me.

Ooh. Hope the chassis is still as well sorted as the MkV or better and an LSD would be nice too. I'm assuming here that the GTI will still be FWD. I do like the rear end on those pics. Could be better with the line removed as well.

Looks a bit like change for the sake of change, rather than new design.

It's like the V over the IV, takes a while before it looks better.

I've found over the years, that to love a shape instantly might mean it's a short-lived appeal, whereas a "slow to grow on you" can be a more enduring design.

Wow the 2.0L TFSI didn't have a very long lifespan at all. 200kW is the max power output of the motor correct?

Given that it only edges out the current 190kW's of the 3MPS by 10kW and Mazda have bored that out to 2.5L now, I doubt it will be competitive for very long.

Car makers need to have a bit more up their sleeve than 10kW when the release a car. I hate to say it, but Holden started the GenIII at 220kW and top tune was 297kW. A span of 77kW isn't bad for lasting through models. I think VW need much the same span to tweak between models.

You dont need power to be a class leader. The RenaultSport Megane Turbo has always had the upper hand over the GTI in terms of power, yet never got the reviews the GTI did. It was faster and handled better but the major car mags always chose the GTI on a day to day basis.

And a 53kw jump from one model to the next is pretty extreme. Even holden only went up in 20 or so kw hikes before the LS2 came in.
