Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Jetta 1.4 TSI

I was at my freindly VW dealership yestorday, and was told that for the 2009 MY,the Jetta will be available with the 1.4 TSI engine.
Cars are expected by early November.
Has anyone else heard this rumour...

No, but it would not surprise me TSI will replace FSI in the future so anythings possible

I wonder if they'll drop the price or drop the 2.0L

EDIT have added this rumor to my New Releases thread here http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ead.php?t=3968

did they definitely say 1.4 TSI? TSI is the new name for the tweaked/revised 2.0L turbo engine too, as seen in Golf MKV, Jetta etc.

if it is 1.4TSI, i'm happy with that. I noticed they quietly dropped their AU-specific TSI site, and was hoping they hadn't panned the twin-charging idea.

The 2.0 will likely be dropped.

Earlier in the year the VW NZ range changed from:

        1.6 FSI to a 90 Kw 1.4 TSI (Turbo)

2.0 FSI to a 103 Kw 1.4 TSI (Turbo and Supercharged)

While the Jetta also went from 2.0 FSI to 1.4 TSI (103 Kw)

        So it's a rationalisation

Will the 2.0 TFSI get a manual by any chance?

I've heard that rumour that VWA wants to spruce up the slow selling Jetta range and add some spice....

So a sporty version similar to the GLI for America (A Jetta version of the GTI, complete with honeycomb grille and 17" Denver wheels) may be on the cards.

            I wrote to VW to
ask if there are any plans to introduce a Jetta GLI,and they said not at this stage.
I saw them in America last year, and they are very sporty and great looking, exactly like a GTI sedan.
Jetta sales have fallen this year to 1250 units in the first half, but the whole medium sector has fallen a bit,as people are changing from large to small cars, according to Mazda who has just dropped pricing of the new Mazda 6 range,as it has not sold its target,or as well as the previous model.
The Jetta has been a sucess, being launched in February 2006,and becomming the second best sellin g VW model that year, with 3120 units sold.
In its first full year,2007,4071 units were sold, also the second most popular VW model.
Total Jetta sales to mid year in Australia 8441 units
Total Bora sales in Australia,December 1999 onwards 5290 units
            Total Vento sales,mid 1995-beginning 2007 324 units.

Sorry,Ventos were sold until early 1997,not 2007 as stated earlier.
