If the Jetta is going to be sourced from South Africa in the future, why cant the Golf also be sourced from there, and the 2 models brought in together, along with the Polo.
RHD Golf VI production is reportedly being moved to Germany.
What interests me is that Japan is not included in the list nor New Zealand.
Rumours,rumours,rumours.
What interests me is that Brazil has never had the Golf 5,they still produce and sell the Golf 4 for the home market, and other export countries, such as Canada, where it is sold as the Citygolf.
America has always been much more of a Jetta country, but surfing the net, found an artacle saying the next GTI WILL definatly be available as a niche car...not sure yet about the next Rabbit...or Golf 6 to us.
And as far as we are concerned, the Golf 5 has never sold better, and I beleive the Golf 6 is not a complete change.
Some reports have said it will be a cost cut version of the Golf 5,with inferior interiors and trim bits...
Who knows.
We will all learn the answers some day...
Considering the price we pay for cars compared to the US for instance i don't see how VW isn't reaching their profit margins.
I was actually planning ti get a golf 6 since i'll be outta uni and have some moolah saved up, but the porsche hatch...hmmmm.....throw in the boxer 6 and i'll be there.
Even if the Golf 6 does not come here, surely the Golf 5 will continue to be sold,as VW does in many countries,by keeping previous generations going.
For example, look at the Citigolf,or Golf 1 in South Africa.
The interesting question would be where the Australian spec Golf 5 models would be sourced from if South Africa ceases RHD Golf production.
I contacted my VW dealer here in Sydney regarding the availability of the next generation Golf and this is the reply that I just got:
"Golf is Australia’s number one selling European vehicle. Mk6 will definitely be coming to our shores! Hopefully towards the end of 2009 but nothing is confirmed yet."
I reckon that sounds about right despite recent articles, don't you? I guess we would still have to wait.
the top one is not the best but only because it looks squashed from the roof. the front cut of the top pic onto the body of the other two.....you have a winner.
VW America has confirmed officially that they are definately getting the MK6, so the Euro press are grasping at straws........
See Worldcarfans for details.
So we will get it........
Now when's that Porsche hatch due .......

As much as I discredit these rumours, in the hypothetical situation that this was true then NZ would not be affected simply because all Golfs sold here are UK-spec, rather than ADR spec, hence our order would be heaped in with VW UK.
This is why we get the 1.4 TSI in 92 Kw and 103 Kw form in place of the 1.6 and 2.0 FSI respectively and will soon receive the Bluemotion.

I've not heard anything official back from VW Aus just yet, but that reply is exactly what I would expect/hope to hear.
