  • Aston Martin hatchback! This would spell the end of their exclusivity.

I really hope this only stays a concept, because if this does happen to come out, it would really be a damn shame for Aston Martin, especially seeing as its a rebadged and 'blinged up' Toyota

And $60k+ for a 1.3L micro hatch............................................. .....................LOL

Look hideous and you would be laughed at if you were seen in one. I read somewhere that the car was only going to be available for people with Aston Martins already. I don't see why performance car marques have be marketed and appeal to "everyone". Same goes with Porsche and the Cayenne and that Panamera obese whale thing. Ulimately its to make more profits. I'm a traditionalist at heart. End rant.

Maybe they are only doing it to get their average fuel consumption down (for all vehicles sold by a particular manufacturer) ? Stranger things have happened to get around govt edicts.

look at it from a different perspective.

If AM can successfully market this hatch, then it gives them more play money to develop better DB9s and even the next DB10 etc

I heard that too and that they try to justify it as the car equivalent to a tender for a super yacht. Most stupid idea in the history of stupid ideas.

Its just as bad as a rumored Ferrari "special edition" Fiat 500 with the shields on the front guards and a jacked up price.

It will indeed be a production car and yes, it is there merely to bring the average fuel consumption of the cars they have on sale to within the government regulated limits. Something like add fuel consumption for each model on sale together and devide by number of models ......

Crazy what you need to do to comply with regs .....

there's a guy on the GC here I went to school with, a complete knob, who fully rebaged (inside and out) his 300C to bentley badges, put a bentley style front grill on, put bentley wheels on, and actually tried to pass it off as a bentley.

I read that it was only going to be available to people buying a new Aston Martin as a daily driver so they don't have to take their db9, v8 etc everywhere

you know thats gotta be the dumbest regulation ever. It prevents manufacturers from specialising.

In the end we have a whole range of new cars on the market that nobody really wants and perhaps cant afford, and the manufacturer ends up taking away resources and compromises what he's good at.

If I want a fridge, I will buy it from Toyota, not from AM

You'll only be able to buy one of these if you buy the bigger brother of them. So in other words you need to buy the $300,000~ one to get the little one.

Also, the R&D cost and effect on the environment from producing these 'regulation meeters' has certainly got to work out worse than keeping a minimal range of fuel guzzlers.

On paper, AM's range looks bad because of the L/km each car produces. But delve deeper and it's in the production where the big effect is. Keep a lesser range and it would be OK.

Take the Prius for example. From the first bolt in production to the last spark in the motors life, they are more inefficient and harmful to the environment than an old V8 commodore. In addition to this, the batteries they carry have a 3 year life span (and cost thousands to replace). Batteries are 1,000 times more inefficient than electricity (production, waste, chemicals etc.).

this is the only point i disagree - this is not "green idiots" given authority - this is what happens when accountants and politicians are left to their own devices. i'm pretty sure that there arent enough people voting for greens for them to have any sway, yet.

                            rediculous, really.
