Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

  • Golf TCR race car

I first saw these as a support category at the Singapore Grand Prix in 2015 and have been watching them on Foxtel.

We are getting our own series late next year I believe.

    Found the spec sheet here.

    Indeed.

Can't wait to see how TCR pans out here.

Might be a struggle to build a grid though; are there enough people wanting to fork out ~ $200k to race them? Generally those with the spare coin would probably stretch to the $300-400k? for a Carrera Cup car.

Not knocking it, I will be curious as well.

I hope it does well. The Supercars are getting stale.

Agreed. It lacks any relevance now, I'm not sure a return to Camaro v Mustang will stave off a longer term decline.

I think it's more about the drivers now. If you shut it down and shifted them all over to GT3 I think that would be just as popular.
I watched the last DTM race of this years series from Hockenheim a couple of weeks ago and it left Supercars for dead.

I wish it would head in that kind of direction. It would be good to see a world wide format like back in the days of WTCC where you could still run a domestic championship, but there would be some sort of world title meeting so you could go up against the rest of the world (or at least Europe).

My issue with a Golf TCR series is it is a bit one dimensional, I still want to see different cars going head to head no matter the pure entertainment value otherwise. There's still core F1 fans that support teams over drivers e.g. Ferrari. I think that's good for the sport, and good for manufacturers who invest into it.

Now if a TCR could be homologated into GT racing..

My error, I'd only ever seen a bunch of Golfs racing in pictures so assumed it was a one-make gig.

That changes things a little, although the previous 2.0 litre series was a non-event compared to the Supercars main event.

For a laugh I thought I'd email VW Motorsport in Germany and ask for the exhaust specs on this to try and emulate it.
                      Actually got a reply.
