As a fan of the 6cyl in Golfs, im a little gutted its supposedly ending
I dont go much on the styling of the MkVI either. But in saying that i didnt like the look of the MkV when that was released and now i have become a big fan
Should be interesting as too see how many generations vw decide to do with the Golf.
MK1 is still the most desirable golf to date. style and funnessGTI 112bhp in 800kgs..... fun fun fun

From what I understood the R32 was front heavy and didn't have any more usable power then a 2.0T would anyway, so I won't miss it in that regard, even if the VR6 wasn't called an R32, it's still more or less the same thing, the hot-rod version of the Golf, so it's been around for 15 years in Aus.
But the Mk6 looks better then the MkV I reckon. I remember seeing expected images of how it would look a year after the MkV came out and it still doesn't look much different to that...88' Volvo 760GLE

Don't bag it until you've tried. Also try a poll one which people on here would prefer to own and see what the results end up with.sigpic

But keep in mind I also own a V6 when I could've had a turbo 4 on my ovlov so the heart wins over the mind sometimes :p88' Volvo 760GLE

They did race the a MK4 R32 in a number of series throughout Australia, but the production version was never a stripped out anything, it weighed close to 1.5 tonnes with the V6 and 4mo. I don't believe vw will ever offer anything like say an Evo 6.5 or an Exige...80,000km 1997 MK3 VR6 manual for sale - www.vwwatercooled.org.au/forums/f23/80-000km-1997-manual-vr6-nsw-sydney-67658.html

It's unfortunate what they say about the end of the legendary .:R32...
BUT.
We can still own them, perhaps for even cheaper as time goes on, and that R GTI is going to munch anything in it's path anyway!
We may have lost the sound, but hell, VW can still produce a ridiculously cool and fast car. (Let's hope the 'cool' comes through with looks...)

4 Motion without an extra 30kw = slower than the FWD car.
4 motion is not worth 100+kg increase in weight vs running sticky tyres on a FWD.
In addition, a 4wd car always struggles at the drags cause they tend to bog down unless you really dump the clutch. In subarus you pretty much rev it to redline and ease the clutch out so that you have some chance of a fast 60 foot with some wheelspin getting you onto boost for 2nd gear.
If you dump it with less than 5000 on a rex you will bog down so badly you might as well be in a sand pit.

I am just pointing out that 4 motion isn't worth **** if performance is your goal. Sure it will do well in the wet but that it all. The FWD setup on the golf with coilovers gives extremely good grip and handling.
Current mk5 is where its at or go a sirocco. 4wd GTI will be a pig.*Disclaimer - Don't rely on me, seek your own professional advice. Audi R8 E-tron. 230kw 4500nm! (not a typo).

Current mk5 is where its at or go a sirocco. 4wd GTI will be a pig.....you clearly portray serious bias for the MKV GTI
. listen carefully and listen well....a 147kW FWD GTI will not even nearly match the abilities of a 200kW AWD GTI-R....on the track or in a straight line!
FWD setup on a golf with coilovers maybe 'extremely good'.....but with the GTI-R you won't need coilovers, it will be great as it is! and then......put coilovers on it and you will have a track machine.
just keep in mind that the turbo setups in newer model VAG's have a very wide torque range meaning minimal turbo lag, effectively diminishing any real low end 'bog'. looking at the new S3, this GTI-R will be a weapon. also, i'm sure this beastie will have launch control.
Cheers,

Also, drags are the worst form of motorsport. Who'd want a fast drag car for their street car?
Real roads have corners, AWD is the only way to get that much power to the ground reliably while turning.FOR SALE
