hey i was just wondering if it would be a good idea to ban new comers from private msgs for 5 or 10 posts
it might prevent spammers from sending these annoying pm's
We have had some updates to the forum today which should help to reduce the problem. The real issue being that it's people signing up then manually sending SPAM. We have already blocked people from outside a few select regions from joining the fourms without manual approval (which means they can't post or PM till after a manual acceptance process) yet the couple of instances we have had have some how managed to bypass that.
Long story short, we are working on it.
In your User Control Panel (UserCP) you can turn off notifications and PM's, but it's an all or nothing thing so you would loose ALL PM's and it's not recommended.
If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
New users must post at least once (as per the newbie rules) before they can use the PM system at all. After posting your first message you are updated to a basic user who can use PM's but can only sent a maximum of two messages every 15 minutes.
That should slow them down somewhat
If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
does this new system have any affect on long term users like myself and others?
dom
Nope, users with more than 10 posts should see no change. Only users with less than 10 posts are limited to 2 PM's per 15 minute period and users with less than 1 post limited to no PM's at all.
If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
