I saw a Tornado Red Mk5 R32 when riding past along the foreshore at Seacliff on Sunday. Just about fell off my bike doing a double-take and drooling.
Did it have queensland plates? I've seen one cruising up Portrush Rd a few times with QLD plates. Not sure if I like the chrome grill... coming from someone who loves the TR colour on his GTI

It definitely had slimline (premium) plates, but I didn't catch the state - I was riding past fairly quickly. I actually like the red/chrome combo on the Mk5, but agree it's not to everyone's tastes.

It might have been me - if the plates were white on red.
The chrome grille was a work in progress. It's satin silver now.
It's a "shed project" I've been fooling with for quite a while. It's not meant to look like an R32 - it's meant to look like the R-line option available in the Fatherland on GTs, Tiguans &c..

The red 4dr R32 in question lives in the Mitcham area I've taken pics of it.
Interesting. I used to live in Kingswood, just by Mitcham, and never saw it down there. My attention tends to be drawn to anything VW these days, and particularly anything of the red variety, so I'm sure I would have noticed it had I seen it.
Okay, time for me to stop stalking other people's cars.
I was back in Adelaide a couple of weeks ago and saw a yellow Mk1 that I think maybe owned by someone on here. Greenhill Rd near King William Rd, I think on Sunday 17/6. Saw another Mk 1 while I was in town - I think I saw more in those four days in Adelaide than I have in four months in Melbourne!

There was a cruise on that day, and Golfer_76 (I'm pretty sure it's him!) came along with his Mk1. We were driving east along Greenhill Rd at about 11am I think? There were also several Mk6 GTIs, a Mk5 R32, an S4 Avant, and several Renaults and Focuses.
Aside: That Mk1 is a beast. Looks completely stock, goes like stick with an (IIRC) rebuilt ~140hp motor. Awesome car.

That's who I was thinking it was but couldn't remember a name. Looked very nice and has P plates I think. He was heading west and it was afternoon. And now come to think of it, it was probably Friday 15/6. I was in an average 2000 Corolla so I wouldn't have stuck out at all (would rather be driving my Mk5 but I flew over so it was left parked at Tullermarine Airport).
