After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

I ended up doing it myself.. After visiting 4 different air-con mechanics and asking them to change the valve.. they all refused to and told me that 'it would be the compressor at fault, not the valve'. Basically just wanted to sell me a new compressor.
You could find a local car air-con place to recover your refrigerant first. Then go home, put the car on ramps and do it yourself. Go back, and refill the gas.
Sorry, not much help for your question, but just don't get sucked in to buying a new compressor first. Good luck.Current - 07 MKV Golf GTi, 6-Spd-M, White.
