Where did you go in the meantime Johnte?
VW village put a broken and sticky taped coil pack back into my golf r after a major service that they misquoted me on.

Told me they would charge me to fix the issue after it was misfiring like crazy and to goto VW Warranty.. took my car off the road for 2 weeks, a dead battery and then time at VW warranty sent me a photo of a sticky taped coil and rang VW village to which they did not dispute and spent the 5 minutes to replace the coil.

had a big write up about it on here but it was deleted, unfortunately a mod here has a problem with people being scared off dodgy operators working on their expensive vehicles.

Hello, I recently used VWVILLAGE for a dodgy transmission that I feared was the dreaded valve body problem - VW took one look and said that I needed a new tranny, $6,600 please. They didn't charge me for that advice. So, I took the Golf to VWVILLAGE out of a little desperation and after a couple fo hours they figured out how to get the car worked normally again for $450. I told them VW told me I needed a new transmission. Oh how we laughed...

...anyway, VWVILLAGE seemed pretty good from my experience.

I'm reading the stories. Some more inform FWIW: a guy I chatted to when I picked up the car told me that he was the founder that he's now passed the shop on to his two sons. The shop seems crazy busy and like many indie specialists they use VW as a rule of thumb for billing ... I used to the use BMW guy that did the same thing... cheaper, sure... but still more expensive that a good local mechanic. I must say also that the Golf is a daily bog standard car (save for the transmissions and we all know how bullet proof they are... oh, wait...) so I wouldn't bother trying to find a VW specialist unless you have major engine woes or drive DSG...

I can only talk from my own experience.

I thought they were good guys / mechanic up until a sticky taped coil went back in after paying for a major service and getting told to goto VW warranty. I just do the work myself now , much cheaper and less headache.
