So the insurance is due on my cars, it's currently with Shannons but it's always worth looking around. Shannons are great for modified vehicles, less so for stock ones, although are generally competitive.
Best insurance I've found so far is fleet insurance. The one I'm on is through RACV but it's underwritten by IAG, I believe.
When a logging truck threw broken branches and stones into my lane as we passed each other near Mt Gambier SA, I made a claim and it was so simple and hassle free. They asked me go to the repairer of my choice (I chose a premium repairer who only does luxury euros) and the insurer took over from there. They sorted out everything and even organized a replacement vehicle for me while my CC was off the road for about a week and a half.
Not sure if IAG/RACV offers a comprehensive insurance product to the public that offers similar coverage and hassle free handling of the claim?. Premium was about $45 a month with a $1,000 excess. Unlimited automotive glass coverage too, IIRC.
1981 Honda Civic hatch. Proper AUTO REVERSE cassette player. AM/FM with Stereo speakers. Four (yep, FOUR!) speed manual. Full cloth trim seats. HALOGEN lightbulbs! Factory options fitted: rear wipers and washer, "Go Fast" wheel covers & electric front windows.
Shannons has been hit and miss for me and also no longer do online quotes. I was insured for 10years with them, I usually got them to beat competitors quotes each year. They could not offer anything decent for my Jetta.
Paying the renewal without looking for a better deal is known as the "lazy tax".
Get a quote from Coles then take it to the big boys and get them to match it.
I managed Allianz renewal for $520, Coles did the online price beat by $50, down to $471.
RACQ wanted $935 but matched the Coles price at $471 and included hire car as I have silver membership.
MK4 GTI - Sold
MK5 Jetta Turbo - Sold
MK5 Jetta 2.Slow - Until it dies.
So with a "modified vehicle" it's always going to be harder, but not selecting that option I've run a bunch of quotes around the joint.
RACV and GIO are both 20%+ more expensive.
Coles is cheaper... untill you realise that's "market value". Maxing out their agreed value (which is still almost a third less than what Shannosn cover me for) and they are $20 less than Shannons. So lower value and the question on mods still remains.
I did talk to Shannons and got about $100 off the original quotes I had so I've signed up with Shannons for another year.
If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
