Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • What do you pay for servicing?

Just had 30k km service done on 2015 Polo GTI at an independent mechanic. Cost $389.

    What do you pay?

....and if you can afford to smoke a packet a day, then $381 is nothing for you. Since the service is once a year.

Haven't serviced yet, but if I choose the 30k service for my current car on the Ford capped price dealer service, it shows $360.
Now that we have capped price servicing is there any reason NOT to go to the dealer? Genuinely wondering.

Without trying to be rude - this thread for "general " servicing costs is really useless, as all cars are going to cost a different amount based on model/engine/fwd or AWD/etc etc.

There will also be different costs between DSG and manual models.

Comparing the service cost of a Golf R major service to a Polo TSI major service or a Touraeg major service is going to be vastly different.

I had the 30,000 km /2 years service today. All up with brake flush and cabin filter was $598. ,
But it didn't cost me a cent. VW Australia. Paid for it. They used my car as a test on the VW service centre. And they didn't. Come out too good in the service department.
He installed a blown bulb in the number plate. Let the air out of one tyre and unclipped a Hose in the engine bay and they didn't tick what work was carried out.

^ exactly why i don't go to the dealer for servicing. You end up paying absolute top dollar to have an apprentice who couldn't care less working on your car. Thankfully you didn't have to pay for the privilege in this case.

Yep that is why I get Pete's team at CVWC Belconnen to take care for my vehicles - proper customer service by specialist VW mechanics at a reasonable price.

                            This.

You need to be 100% specific on what your car is, and what work was performed.

One post above mentions that a 150K service on a Caddy is a major. It's just a basic service with a cabin filter.

A good service advisor would have picked it from a mile away, and assigned it to a senior technician.

Years ago, they'd send a staffer from VW to the dealership for a "service".
